This is kinda neat, it's almost like the deer know they're being helped.

Is it wrong that I laughed my butt off at the guy waving bye-bye to a deer sliding along on its belly??

Nice job cooldude I haven't seen any worthwhile news or video in quite a while. That was a nice break from the crazy world we live in.  I know it's just an advertisement, but it's a good one.

Of course the question is, how did they get way the hell out there before discovering it was too slippery to walk?

Yeah I know, someone took their skates.

Nice video. There was just a similar story in a magazine up here but the deer had gone partially through the ice and was frozen to it. It took a few weeks of care but they eventually released it   cooldude

2 thoughts here, 1st from my view point, how the heck did they get all the way out there?

2nd would be from the deer point of view, "what the hell, we wanted to go the other direction"

I imagine they walked on the ice with a little trouble until they slipped enough to fall down.  Once down the couldn't get enough traction to get their feet (hooves) under them to rise.

I was wondering how much damage was done to them by dragging them at speed across the very cold ice in full contact with their bellies.

Yep, deer's feet's ain't meant for slick ice. That one with the splayed legs is in trouble and may not heal correctly.

We fish open water all year, it doesn't completely freeze very often. The Finger Lakes are deep and wide with heavy currents. Anyway, one February day I was out hand lining for Lake Trout about a mile from shore and along comes a deer right behind me heading for the east shore. As she got by me she apparently lost track of where she was and started circling and getting lower and lower in the water. So I pulled in the 400 ft of line and eased on over to her. She didn't try getting away from me and once her with I didn't know what to do with her. I didn't dare bring her in the boat. So I slid the rope under her and cinched her up to the side of the boat and trolled her back to shore. When I let her go, she just climbed up the back and stood there looking back for quite awhile.

That sounds so much better than the bloody raw one some buddies thought I should take a bite of.

Some traditions are just crazy.   crazy2

(I still have the bloodstained down coat from that deer..... thou it has shrunk considerably in the closet))
