I did the ECT mod a few weeks ago and promised to do a full test and report.  Just wanted to let you know I have not forgotten.  Had some annying interference in my test.  I did not realize that I have a slow leak in my rear tire.  I was getting fuel mileage all over the map.  Form about 30 to over 40.  finally realized something was up.  I will be getting the leak fixed and then do the testing with a properly aired tire. 
     So far I think it was a good mod.  And very cheap and easy.  At first i installed it according to the instructions.  then I realized that the resistor was keeping the pot from being fully adjustable.  Ran a bunch of resistance checks.  So I snipped it out and now have much better and complete control of the  voltage passing through the pot.   Subjective opinion at this point is that there is a more smooth power band from about 2200 to 3500 rpms.  Also subjective until I get good data is better fuel mileage.  No problem with pinging or overheating.  If I find myself stuck in traffic I just turn it off.

Don't think so. I never have in 2 years. I don't have the pot and never had a problem with anything.

I have a 2K I/S with a 4 degree TW and a 98 standard with the simple ECT mod.
Quite frankly, I prefer the simple ECT mod.

You might want to at least consider a mid-grade fuel. On all Valk models.
It's the risk of non-audible pre-ignition pinging that can also damage albeit not so readily.
Remember, the I/S ICM advance being utilized with this mod is [I think] 2* (maybe 4*) above that of the Standard/Tourer models.

I did the ETC mod with pot and integrated clutch switch on a '97 Tourer with an I/S ICM. I tend not to use it unless I have a higher grade fuel or an additive like Techron in the tank.

I've been using about an 1/2 ounce of Techron/gal. lately. It clears up an idle drop problem I have when the engine is heat soaked. Funny it acts like an electrical issue, but the Techron eradicates it. Premium fuel alone doesn't do the trick, but regular & Techron does. It goes back to crap immediately if I don't dump some Techron in. I'll be cursed... At least I know my pilot jets are staying clear. That I'm sure 'cause I recently installed new 38's.

DFragn, thanks for that info about Techron and idle drop. I've been having the same problem lately. I'm running an I.S. ICM, 38 slows with pilot screws 1 3/4 out.
As you said at least I won't have problems with ethanol clogging, which I have had even after installing the 38 slows.

Any update on this?  I recently purchased the 4 degree TW (not installed) but the ECT looks like it may be a better option.

I ran a 6 degree wheel on my 2000 Tourer for 3 years before changing to the ETC mod with pot.  After 4 months I changed back to the 6 degree wheel.  My overall gas milage is better and idle and mid-range power feel better with the 6 degree wheel.  Both are simple to do and do'nt cost a lot.  Try one and then the other and decide for your self.
