Is there a way to remove the bluing on the headers?

Yeah, quit running the choke on for so long.

Take choke of in less than a minute from starting the engine.

Now, how to get the bluing off of your headers, there is a bunch of stuff on the market, but the only one I had good luck with is Blue Off, I think it is called.

In your internet provider search link, type in 'removal of blueing from exhaust headers'.

Follow the links till ya find one ya might like.

Okay, you are forgiven this time.

Are they OEM headers or an aftermarket type?

OEM pipes are double walled and very hard to turn them BLUE.

After market pipes a single walled and will turn BLUE just from normal use.

I'd see if they are EOM 1st.

If not, then I'd look for some chrome covers for them.   Every once in awhile a set will come up on e-Bay.     I think it was Cobra who made them.   Don't quote me on the Cobra, as I'm not positive there.

The only real way to stop the bluing if they are aftermarket, is to have them Jet Coated.   I'm assuming the header will come off of the mufflers if they are after market.

If you don't want to go the Jet coating, then look for a OEM stock exhaust system.

Removing the blue, removes chrome.

Rust will be the obvious result.

I bought my '99 I/S in '06 with 7809 on the odometer, the PO who lived in Michigan probably choked it far too long during start ups, hence blued headers. I never could get that bluing off, have learned to live with it as it has no effect on performance.

I have also used Blue Job with success. It did not seem to damage the chrome in any way.
I also noticed that Blue Job looks very similar to an old product called 'Bar Keepers Friend'. I used Bar Keepers Friend on another piece of tarnished chrome and it seemed to work as good as Blue Job.
