I wish them well. In July this year?, nope. 84 mpg, believable when it actually happens. "we continue to engineer the Elio for up to 84 MPG". I don't think they are there yet. Maybe highway, not city. The factory production line is not under construction yet, nor has the engine production been finalized. It's going to be mid 2016, if then. from a press release in Jan. of 2014 "Elio Motors expects to begin commercial vehicle production in Louisiana in mid-2014, with significant hiring at the Shreveport facility to begin by the second quarter 2014 and full employment to be reached in late 2015." hasn't happened yet. a good read here: http://www.technologytell.com/in-car-tech/10241/elio-delays-politics-dont-go/and another here: http://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=141045816It would be great to be able to buy a vehicle like the Elio. I think it's still smoke and mirrors. Maybe in another year or two?

That 3 cylinder, 400 hp engine that someone posted a tread about the other day would be perfect for this thing.

He said this year,,,,,,,,,,but I guess we will have to wait a little longer. I called so as to buy the thing. He said no not yet. I wanted to buy a dealership. He said the dealers would be in house. I will have one when they make one. Of course they already have prototypical on the road. IT is in the picture and rolling. They are serious,,it will happen.

I've been watching this one for several years now, couldn't bring myself to stroke a non-refundable check though. Original production promise was summer 2014. I'm on their mailing list and went more than 6 months without an update. I read in another forum that "investers" from Detroit are now gumming up the works, hope it's not true.

Last I saw was they delayed it again to 2016 They still haven't convinced enough backers to invest the money needed toget started.

I placed and order and got on the build list. Will it ever be built? A year ago I thought it couldn't be stopped, now I'm 50/50 that I will ever see mine. Great idea, piss poor execution.

since it is built in house in Louisiana, what do you do if there is an issue with the car and you need it repaired? Are you gonna drive say 1-2000 miles to the plant to get it fixed if don't live in or near the plant since no network of dealerships? You maybe seriously tossing out 7-8 grand out the door?
The smart thing to do in my eyes is to wait 2-3 years until up and running to get all the bugs out. First year production runs are not good and with an entirely new company, cannot be too wise to get it right away the way I see it.
I do wish them well and hope it comes more local to purchase and service with more dealers around so I would consider it as well, but not holding my breath at all on that. Price point is very good, but not so sure on reliability.
Sounds like prototype engine is the 90's Geo Metro 3 cylinder engine, a very good engine for what it is have known a few who had those Geo's in the 90's still running with over 200K miles on them. Yet, highly doubt will get over 80 mpg, more like 70 mpg on average tops. VERY reluctant to see any engine achieve over 80 mpg ever, even most 150cc scooters do not get over 80 mpg, only 50cc scooter engines is all. My 249cc scooter gets on average 63 avg mpg mostly hwy. doing 63 mph, so if that little engine cannot get over 70 mpg ever, no way a much heavier vehicle being a 3 cylinder will get over 70 avg. mpg I don't think.

Yes it will fetch a million bucks, but ONLY if you get Michael J. Fox to sign it and then he dies soon afterwards.
