I just sat through 6 hours of on-line training in Compliance that everyone in the company has to do.  This was highly professionally done and all 6 hours were full of information.  Had to have cost tens of millions to produce.  Then everyone in the company taking 6 hours out of there day to complete the course has to cost more tens of millions.  And this has nothing to do with any specific, actual drug.  Just a regulatory compliance thingy.

As a Fed civil servant, you cannot believe the PC bullhocky they made us sit through every year.  Lengthy, dull and dumbed down for GS-1 (and up) to understand, each then followed by a test.  Can we say bullshit?... certainly not, that is an unacceptable word that is hateful and harmful, and may require those harmed to seek psychological counseling, or seek redress thru EEO or legal channels.

Hours and days and days.  All while running standard work quotas full bore, so everyone got behind in required weekly production.  What made it particularly irritating for me, was that I (and some 250 of my coworkers) was fully trained (to better than instructor status as a practicing attorney), on virtually every subject of training, but no one was exempt from the bullshit.

And the newfangled computer programs created for such training (costing tens of thousands of dollars each) had to have special passwords and logins, and you could not get your password, and many of these systems crashed (and it practically took a computer course, just to be able to take these computer courses).  Thus it would take me (and many) four hours of futzing to finally log on to take a two hour course.  And when we called in to complain about the difficulties in taking these courses, they took our names and duty assignments and reported us to our HQs, who then took action to have us counseled (punished) for complaining.

And every time the VA had another scandal (you know, about one every 5 months, forever), another lengthy course was created and added to the pile.

The special movies on sexual harassment were the best.  They showed people each and every way it was humanly possible to sexually harass someone.  Like just standing there and staring at a woman's chest, with a little drool leaking out.

On average, we lost from 60 to 80 hours annually jumping thru these hoops.

Even George Orwell would have not believed it.

This bull hockey is not unique to gubmint.
My company is now forcing ALL employees to attend weeklong classes and sit for exams for - "Functional Safety".
There are a handful of people that actually do design the circuits who would benefit, but these classes don't even have anything to do with design, only how to interpret the spec.
It is an almost total waste of time for 99%, but the company will get to brag that all were trained.
Oh yeah, we all still have projects that are understaffed and in danger of missing deadlines. But drop everything and go get unneeded training NOW. They even want us to come in Saturdays unpaid, to make sure to pass the (useless) exam   tickedoff

At least where you guys are working, you get training of some sort regadless if relevant to your specific job.

How would you all like to work for a company like mine that gets installed 2 new operating systems one for the food side, one for the non food side, and GO LIVE with NO training AT ALL?  ONLY a select few of  the supervisors/managers got months and months of pre-training and testing on both inventory systems, and when GO LIVE, handed us a sheet or two or three of paper on how to go in and navigate the screens to do the jobs, and then what pissed us all of is, the SUPERVISORS then expect us to write 'procedures' on how to do our own jobs?  We (us pions who actually work) are all so sick of the 'P' word 'Procedures' when we ask our supervisors questions on the systems, they say what does the 'procedures' say?  Talk about the blind leading the blind?

NICE huh?   tickedoff

Sorry to tell you but the same is true in all business. We take the required safety, asbestos, lead, and whatever else the insurance companies feels is necessary to keep their liability to a minimum at our own cost. Insurance companies are the legalized protection racket that fuels the ridiculous costs of doing business.
Nice little business you got here, I would hate to see an little accident make you lose everything.

There IS an equation for this-Bullshit in=Extreme bullshit out!  Roll Eyes Truckers weren't exempt from this bull kaka either. A "random computer pick" picked me 3 different times for piss tests. According to the people in charge with the size of the driving force I was "only" sposed to get picked once every other year!  uglystupid2 I also got picked-random computer pick AGAIN-for a 2 day unpaid safety course once a month for 3 straight months. The safety course was sposed to be once every 3 years. And when the changed the hours of service regs-MORE unpaid asinine courses.  Lips Sealed And in case there is ANY doubt-the U S gubmint decides WHAT the hours of service rules are.  uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE.

I had all that BS in my past line of work.

Good thing with my current position is that as long as I make the bed when I get up, and clean up after eating, the boss is happy!

Truer words were never spoken.   cooldude

My five year retirement anniversary is coming up (and I'm about to apply for my Social Security).

The only training I do now is..... Where is the beer again?  Oh yeah, the fridge.  And where is the church key?  Oh yeah, it's also in the fridge now.

After a few beers (or John Jamison), then I play.......... find your foot.   Grin

Yours is not to reason why, yours is to do and keep the stock price high!

Sitting in a meeting, or doing computer training pays very well, thank you. AND,  I don't get dirty and sweaty.

I get "Ladder training". Then they took away the ladders.
I fell off the top deck on a trailer, had to re-take ladder training. No ladders.
I really dig the explosive and other related training though.
I'm all trained up, or, look Ma, I can be trained.

When I was at CompUSA corporate, they put us through an all day sexual harassment class.  The only thing I remember from it is when the president of CompUSA at the time said "well, we know what we can get away with now".

Some forms of harassment are unintentional and can only be learned by experience.

I had been casual friends with a married gal at work for many years, but only saw her once in a blue moon (multiple floors in a Fed bldg).  When I saw her with a large belly, I immediately congratulated her on her pregnancy.  She visibly stiffened and reported she was NOT pregnant, but that the carbs and years had not been kind to her.  No amount of humble apology was sufficient.  That is a mistake you only make once in a lifetime..... unless you are an idiot.

In my defense, men get pot bellies, and women get pot bottoms (not bellies with a normal bottom).  Apparently, there are exceptions.   crazy2

Note to self:  NO woman is pregnant, until she tells you she is pregnant.
(Unless you have been diddling her, and then you need medical corroboration.)

Its is better that a pregnant lady stand on the bus than a fat lady sit and cry.

Im what some called semi retired.  Retired from the military 15 years ago (WOW how the time flies)  Anywho....you cant live on the retirement they give enlisted so I do my woodworking business so we can eat.  Literally

So I get phone calls weekly..."We can take care of your OSHA compliance requirements"  Or do you have problems providing ObamaCare to your employees.  I have no employees, never will (I don't think) I am the scheduler, the work foreman, the CEO and the Janitor.  I'm the one that makes all the mistakes and I'm the one that fixes them.  I give myself days off to go motorcycle riding regularly no one gets mad.  I am it, me, no one else!  So when these government types call to have me to buy all sorts of compliance crappola I just tell them, sorry does not apply, I have no employees.  The last guy stuttered a bit and then (like he had to look it up) said OH, you're exactly right.  I was already hanging up and just caught his remark........of course I'm right DUH would I pay for a presentation for myself.

Its out of control, I wish there was a way to get rid of it all

I did not know it was so bad that one man operations got solicitations for Govt compliance.

My brother built an airplane two years ago (from scratch, not a kit, and a used Lycoming engine and instruments).  A tremendous woodwork carpentry job as well as mechanicals.

To be able to fly it, he had to do FAA stuff (which was bad enough), and then other G depts were notified in due course.  He began to get calls about being in the business of aircraft manufacture (like he's Boeing or Northrup now).  Then the State called up and wanted taxes.  He said, I did not build an airplane and then sell it to myself. I am not in business.   They went round and round, and sensing that he would have to give them something to save face, he pointed out that he did buy some things off the internet out of state that was not taxed, so they settled for a couple hundred bucks (they started off wanting thousands).  Unbelievable.  What it amounted to was simple extortion.  No different than a mafia protection racket.  Except slightly more legal.

And worth every penny because it beats the alternative.

Make calls to the drug companies and ask about assistance programs for their products.

Point was that it's very expensive to be in business here in the good ole US of A.  Drugs come to market a lot sooner in Europe and Asia with a lot less money invested there as well.
