Love that area so this peaked my interest. I can't see anything of substance that would cause this. The only thing I can think of is the first weekend in June and a slough of Weddings that weekend. Great place for Weddings. Scenic.

We ran into that last fall when we tried making plans for a weekend in Winona just up the road. Hotels were not available in Winona and they were pretty full in the LaCrosse area too. We wound up staying at the Days Inn that Inzane XIII was at. Lots of October weddings up there with the leaves changing colors.

Nascar racing is the only thing I saw:  http://www.explorelacrosse.com/calendar/?hvid=10snDk#?hvid=10snDk/action%7Eagenda/page_offset%7E1/time_limit%7E1432427401/request_format%7Ehtml/&_suid=142431063280600693257000154821

but I would not think that would be as crowded as Riverfest on July 1st?

If you head south out of LaCrosse on Great River Road, there are mom and pop motels cheaper in smaller towns and the scenery along that road is worth the drive south heading to PDC.

UW La Crosse graduation as a guess. Not the biggest in the UW system but not the smallest either. Plus after Memorial Day, all River Road destinations get busy.

I might be mistaken, but I believe the high school state track and field finals are held in Lacrosse, and that would be about the time frame. Plus, I don't think school is done for the year until the second week of June.
