I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure we're cold because of the absence of heat.

Red , what is your idea of cold? 30 degrees. We have a no temperature here so you can make it what you want.
I worked outside the last 40 years and have no idea why anyone would want to live here. I can not handle the cold. (oh-I forgot ,I'm getting older)

Arriving via 2000 Interstate: I'll be at the ball field in about 2 hours; sittin' in the stands and basking in the rays of God's great sun. Watchin' the college kids in their opening day game against the Baptists from Californ-I-Ay and rootin' the Mavericks on (to "smells like victory".) Game time temperature 57 degrees, 0% preciptiation, 18% humidity, no winds, clear & sunny. Eat your hearts out.

Yup, cold. It's winter. Temp was 7 when I woke up. You must be very proud of your daughter! Like your phrasing about astro-physics explaining what meteorologist won't. Not can't, but won't. They do know alright. Last week I attended a presentation by Dr. Ken Dewey, Climatologist at the University of Nebraska. He was asked by a member of the audiance why meteorologists don't use their positions in the media to educate the public more about climate. His response surprised me. He stated that many radio and TV stations are owned by wealthy right wingers that will not permit using controversial terms like global climate change. Hope it ain't so. But that's what he said. Our polarized politics just gets in the way of good information from a lot of sources. Sheeesh, and in the information age too! Oh, BTW the orbital aspects of claimant variations make the Sahara Desert a rather nice place --- about every 20,000 years or so. We can thank paleontologists from the University of Chicago for helping confirm that. They were looking for dinosaur fossils, but found ancient human remains on a former lake shore. Now remote sensing imagery has established a system of ancient river beds across the area.

Because this "is the Information Age" is precisely why we cant get a straight answer from any side of any issue.

I was cold today because I rode the Valkyrie to Pensacola for a PGR run. It was 28° when I left the house at 0830 and 39° when I got back around 3pm. I went straight into a hot shower until we ran out of hot water. Around a 120 mile day, much of it on the slab doing 70 BRRRR!!! The only thing that got really cold was my hands, I guess my winter gloves have seen their last winter Al Gore can suck an egg IMPEACH OBAMA

Actually had the AC on yesterday. Got to admit I was hot from topping out a tree in my back yard. The temp outside was around 65 and is supposed to stay like this for another 8-10 days. Warmest winter in ten years.

Like you Ross, I've done my time in the freezing cold. As the aging process goes on, I have less tolerance for cold, be it 30 deg or 60 deg. When I first started riding 13 years ago, no weather was too cold, now I just wait on the heat. Hell, I even hope the wife goes to bed first so she can warm the bed for me.

For instance, there are at least three major ways that Earth's orbit varies over the course of millennia: its eccentricity, its obliquity and its precession. Where the Earth is within each of these cycles has a significant effect on the amount of solar radiation — and thus, warmth — that the planet gets exposed to. Read more: http://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/climate-weather/stories/everything-you-need-to-know-about-earths-orbit-and-climate-cha#ixzz3SFpvWqfOIn the Millennia period it took me to go through the material,, I was Obliquely challenged to look at the precession of eccentricity of my BTU's.SO there, British Thermal Units rear the ugly head of Obamacare to it's crescendo of tolerance. It was 6 here this morning, in Good Old Dixie. -3 forecast for morning. Global Warning is welcome at my house. HURRY PLEASE

Put your hat on. Sorry, couldn't resist. Its said in jest you know. As I type, it is. Mine too, been outside the last couple hours. Pulled a muscle the back of my neck at the gym and it helped keep the cold wind off it. It's an old floppy hat that hangs down in back. PS: Is the horse dead yet?

This is all part of the cold war. Russia has installed gigantic fans in Siberia, that blow tremendous amounts of cold air at us, causing the us to use more oil and natural gas to keep warm.

In contrast to what we often hear that "the science is settled!" there is still research going on (and this is why we need wonderful people like your daughter) to help us wrap our heads around issues that are seemingly larger than life like "global warming". You can be sure that for every theory there are competing/opposing theories. Here's one http://www.duncansteel.com/archives/996 that argues against the accuracy of the calculations of many that have contributed to our understanding (timing and impact) of our planets orbital eccentricity, obliquity and perihelion relationship to our sun. George, will you please have your daughter review this and contrast and compare these? I hope her thinking and research isn't unduly influenced or limited by the many, powerful, chest beating and loudest voices that are in line to benefit from the fear mongering so prevalent in today's politics.
