A friend sent me that link a couple of days ago. I really recommend reading it. It's long, but it really does a good job of explaining the mentality of this enemy. They are not all the same, and it will require different methods to deal with each iteration.
As for ISIL, I say let them all go to Dabiq. Heck, help pay for their tickets. Of course they know we're going to attack them on that "holy' spot leading to our destruction and the end of days.
I'm thinking that once we've got as many of them there as will go, a W53 riding in on a Titan II will pretty much resolve all issues with that particular sect.



It would make our position and resolve clear to the other sects and likely circumvent further hostilities between us and them.

It's a win-win-win.
We win because we don't have to listen to these jack wads any more.
They win because they're waiting on the final apocalypse. They'll have just experienced 9 megatons of it, curtesy of Uncle Sam.
The innocent civilians win, because being turned into a cloud of ionized gas is better than living under these brutal @$$holes.

IANANE*, but I remember reading an article roughly 10 years ago about tritium production. IIRC we (USA) were shutting down the last nuclear facility that produced tritium. I also believe that tritium is used as a trigger in US made thermonuclear (Hydrogen) bombs. Tritium has a half-live of 12.4 years. I don't know what concentration would be required for a trigger, but I'd assume that somewhere less than 12 years the triggers would cease to function. Assuming a requirement of 75% purity, that puts them ineffective in about 4 to 5 years.

 

Again, IANANE*. But I have to wonder if we have a viable nuclear arsenal in 2015. I know the old (and smaller) fission bombs are likely to still make a loud noise if called on. But I wonder if we're still capable of making a convincing strategic statement if we need to.

Anybody here know have more knowledge on this? My fears unfounded?

If all the jihadist terrorist of ISIS were spewing their violence and mayhem from the Island of ISIS, a remote island in the Indian ocean somewhere, I'd even support the nuke option and end the problem.

But they are not. They are embedded in the cities and societies that themselves are victims of these pieces of crap. The use of the nuke option for these dickheads would instantly make us far worse then they are because while we'd kill a lot of them we'd kill millions of folks who don't really have a dog in the fight.

History would not be kind.

This is a tough problem to solve.

One thing that comes to mind is that the problem is greater than "Islamic extremist". The problem is Islam and sharia law which is derived from it. That is the core problem.

I say that we use the model that was used against South Africa and apartheid.

Any country embracing sharia law would be dis invested from as any country that would do business with them.

Countries actively disengaging from such practices would get special considerations.

But if your country embraces a social set of laws that destroys the concepts of freedom and liberty for Human beings then we shall isolate you and set you back decades if not centuries till you wise up.

All the while continuing to range the world over killing ISIS and associated leadership.
The disinvestment would likely have a financial impact on the terrorist organizations.


If that don't seem to work after a couple of years, well, then nuke'em. But give it a shot first.  
A different American Administration would likely help the matter.
