Well, the north east and New York are largely democrat.
Yes, but it might have to do with population density as well. Im sure there are more church goers in NYC with 8 million people that in the 4 highest populated cities in Alabama (OK, I'm guessing, but I think I'm pretty close).
Blacks, especially newer immigrants vote Democrat as a block, but the north Bronx and east Brooklyn, storefront churches are packed on Sunday because the folks happen to be extremely religious (and hold extremely conservative social values as well).
Newer immigrant hispanics and filipinos (sp?) are the same. Democrat voters yet religious and socially conservative.
