Since these darned car tires are so unsafe......how many miles have YOU logged on them without suffering a flaming death so far?
Being fairly new to it I can only attest to approx. 10,000 miles on one so far.

Jimmy....is that all darkside miles? That's what I am after. Think it would be interesting to see how many miles total we have racked up on them so far.

Over 100000 miles on car tires. Never had any problems I switched to a new avon cobra that I had instead of selling it due to the shipping cost. Two months later lost traction two times at less than 30 mph in curves. The last time I crashed and got hurt enough to keep me off the Valk for around four months. Do I blame the Avon? Yes. Knowing how the ct performs at all speeds up to 125 mph and running with sport bikes for several years I'm sure that if I had a ct I would still be riding.

About 27k on a Bridgestone c/t, roughly 17k on a Metz front. The c/t has saved my bacon more than once in Orlando traffic, you hit the brake and it squats and grabs....straight upright. No sign of it wanting to high-side you, that's what I like.  cooldude

Right about 190,000 miles...on the Valk...darkside. Ran 'em in the old days too on several bikes...(usually VW tires) but riders hadn't yet fallen to the pussification of America and it wasn't controversial then.

Around 25,000 miles on the Valk dark side (115,000 total miles on Valk)

However, I've died a flaming death 23 times so far, so let that be a warning to you!

I have a little over 18,000 miles on the Valkyrie IS darkside.

I did have an accident last Mother's Day that I blame on too much power applied in a slow turn. Occured after a right turn on green from a stop, still in first gear. Went wide to the left lane to pass the car in front of me who established in the right lane. He swung into the left lane after I did, without signaling, so I leaned a bit further and went to take the right lane. As I crossed the white dotted line I rolled on the gas (admittedly ticked off) and the car tire slid on the white line, fishtailed me and I lost it with a double tank slapper when I pulled in the clutch (don't do dat). Flung me like an apple off a stick, as they say.
NOT THE CAR TIRE'S FAULT!

Regardless, I am prepping a 93 GL1500I to replace my GL1100 as my daily driver (130 miles/day). The 93 will be Double Darksided (Austone and Pilot Activ) and I haven't put a single mile on it yet. It came with evenly worn E3s, although they would probably pass inspection I don't want them.

Call me convinced.

Running Triple Tred

33k on the first one. Replaced with maybe another 10k left on it.
Put new one on for long trip
25k on this second one so far.
Will likely replace this year before Yellowstone trip. Not sure what brand this time. Will do the research in earnest when the time comes.

60000 ish D/S. She came with dunflop E-3s. They were fairly new when I bought the Valkyrie. I could NEVER get "comfortable" on the E-3s. And in the rain-I M H O-the E-3s are dangerous! I like the overall handling and feel of D/S. While I am NOT an expert when I ran the Dragon last year on my way to Asheville the handling of my machine DID NOT hand me any surprises.  cooldude Put in the simplest terms-I'm a convert to the D/S. RIDE SAFE.

My first one was a General Exclaim UHP 205/55R16 91V, got 14k outta that one.
Then 4 Michelin Riken Raptors 205/55zr16 94w, at approximately 10k each,
& I'll be dog gone'd if that big azz son of a gun didn't fit under the '05 Wing (with alittle persuasion from my big left boot). I'm 7k into that one.
'At's about what, 60k plus.

Best guesstimate, about 50K+ (two bikes). Only one tire used up, two more have a long way to go, each.

I did 20k darkside miles on the Interstate I'm replacing.  But, I'm a pussy.  I ran from the darkside screaming and crying.  No plans to step onto the darkside on the IS I pick up tomorrow.

Well, I might ... 'cause I did enjoy the folks I ride with screaming and crying about the rooster tail of road dirt or water no quantity of mud flap managed to tame.

EDIT:  Well, picked up Booty yesterday.  Need to add an and counting 'cause she's darksided.

I got 14K on my Austone TT.  It's been a great tire and still looks brand new.  Only con is the height it adds, but I'm used to it.

Went Double Dark Side about 5K ago.

I keep waiting for someone to report their total-miles-before-used-up on the Austone.

I really like the added high speed long distance freeway stability, and braking traction, and hold in the dirt, gravel, sand riding of the 205 60 car tire.  But I may be tempted to try one one day, if it goes at least 30K.  I'll bet it's easier to lift up and instal (lighter/smaller than a 205) when you are working alone.

My Yokohama lasted 20K and was down to the wear bars.
My Austone looked practically new at 7K.

I'd say 30K is a MINIMUM for the Austone.  Unfortunately, I replaced it with a Wing before I could get more miles on it.

You really can't make an assessment on safety.  The posts are simply number of miles, not the number of safe miles.

Your replies also are way, way short of the total number of us experienced on tires not originally designed, manufactured or marketed for use on motorcycles.  You've also lumped all of those tires unreasonably into a single category.   Smiley

Gotta agree with ya there. World of difference between say, these 3 Yoko's for example.
(The better tire is cheaper because you'll get fewer miles out of it.)
