Yesterday traffic came to stop in Marathon Fla., both south lanes. Figured it had to be an accident. I was surprised to see how just how many bikers were lane splitting, and, how the cage drivers were reacting to it. The bikers didn't seem to care or even notice, but, the horns were blowing and the fists were a shaking. One woman tried getting out to go after some of the bikers swearing and swinging her fists. Cracked me up, the bikers just kept going.
Some 25 yr old dumb ass had apparently been driving recklessly for quite some distance and was constantly trying to pass everyone, or so the story goes. The 7 mile bridge was one such place, and, his last. He [ with his girlfriend or wife and dog] pulled out into the opposite lane on this bridge and hit an 80 yr old couple in a new Mustang Conv. head on. The dumbass and his dog died, girlfriend in critical condition. The older couple are in good stable condition.
These cars hit hard, totaled. I got a pretty good look at them as they came by on the rolldecks. Traffic was held up for 3.5 hours.
I didn't see a single Valk, a good thing. The Valk is probably too 'fat' to squeeze thru like that anyway.

Funny you should mention lane splitting, I saw a humorous event just a couple days ago....and an expensive one at that. We have a lot of scooters in the area due to the various colleges/universities. I was sitting 4-5 cars back at a light and heard this noise coming up behind me.....a kid on a scooter running between the cars. As he approached a car about three in front of me I see this uniformed arm come out with his hand outstretched to flag him down. He then had him pull in front and onto the sidewalk where he pulled out his little book and put his displeasure in writing. I heard him ask if he knew about the law re. splitting lanes, the kid said he did but didn't pay attention to it because it didn't make sense and he hated being detained by traffic. So the cop asked him "how about now, does this make an impression on you? In this traffic and these narrow streets, it's dangerous."

I can see doing it on a street where the lanes are wide, but this kid had to horse his scoot around to keep from hitting a car. Barely enough room for him to pass. Personally I won't do it under any circumstances, I've been there to see the blood and gore from a van crossing the traffic and the biker didn't see him.

I wonder just what kind of impression that ticket made.

Probably none if daddy paid the citation.

Which is usually the case.
