To the members that do not want to raise their blood pressure, DO NOT WATCH this video. The speaker explains the new "COMMON CORE" teaching method, how it was developed, and how it has been implemented so far.  The common core, has been forced through in much the same way that Obama Care and the upcoming internet changes were. It was put together by a group of left wingers (with private money) and forced upon the states. The video explains it better than I ever could.

This video is very long, but well worth listening to. I realize most of us no longer have children in the system, but we do have grand children that are being effected. Most of today's parents are much like we were years ago, too busy to pay much attention to what the schools are doing. The difference is that the new changes are down right scary!

If you give the video 10-12 minutes, you will be compelled to watch the rest of it, you will not be able to shut it off.

never heard of this common core, but my kids in middle and high school doubt could go back in time in the 70's and 80's now and learn just by tons of written homework thru textbooks ONLY.  Same goes for me though going back to school in today's world learning stuff, doubt I could do it and for sure not willing to do it the way they learn in classes now.

Almost everything is now done thru a tablet or laptop for every child, even in our smaller school of 20-25 per class.  It seems homework is non-existent (well almost) in today's classrooms.  Either that, or kids are so smart nowadays they don't need to do homework, but that is highly unlikely.

Even in grade school about 7-9 years ago when my kids were there,  teaching penmanship and proper grammar/spelling in both cursive and print was lacking which I think is one of the most important things there is to learn to do neatly and accurately.  I have bad writing, but both my kids penmanship and spelling is worse than mine is and now they are in middle/high school and I sometime proofread my Junior in high school's work a few times and always seem to catch a few grammar/spelling mistakes still.   And yet, both my kids are A/B students and do good in school overall despite what I feel is the lack of homework given.  Their reading ability is college level though and am impressed with that - must have gotten that from mom since I am a slow reader and never liked reading books much unlike my kids.  I think freshman year in high school destroyed me on novel/long books with the old witch French teacher teaching us English having to read Romeo and Juliet and other novels that most guys that age hated and then taking stupid chapter quizzes on them weekly.

Kids in school though nowadays do not need to hand write and have good penmanship on paper, since it is all electronically done on their tablets and thru their laptops.   I remember staying up in high school until 1 p.m. to type essays on my old Brother fancy typewriter, those days are non-existent anymore.

Times surely have changed in school, some better, but for a great deal of it,  not for the better IMO.

This common core thing is very odd indeed.  Will have to ask my kids if they heard of it.

AZ just repealed Common Core this week. The testing was next week but has been cancelled.

The REAL purpose behind ALL of this, is to create a Population that is UNABLE to think for themselves.

People that can't think for themselves are much easier to CONTROL.

They are MUCH more likely to do WHATEVER they are TOLD.

It began with NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND and this is just the NEXT step in their PLAN.

Yes, I know that no child left behind started under G.W. Bush, this just proves that the DUMBING down of the population is a BI Partisan plan.

You are absolutely correct, it is not any particular political party that is pushing this. In my opinion it is the UN and the global union concept that is behind it, just like global warming and gun control. They won't stop until we are a third world nation just like all the others.

talked to my daughter in high school just now on what she thought of common core.  She said it is dumb and she feels the teachers shouldn't have to follow those rules to teach and they know more about how to teach their own way vs. following common core B.S.

A Washington Post article dated 09/10/14 noted that only Alaska, Nebraska, Texas, and Virginia have NOT adopted Common Core standards.  Minnesota adopted the reading standards only.

If you have not seen the movie 'Idiocracy', get it and watch it. It is supposed to be funny but we actually seem to be getting closer to it all of the time. Common Core would fit right in! In fact, Common Core might have caused it!.

Idiocracy, starring Luke Wilson. The film was made in 2006 and is available from NetFlix and other sources.

More and more kids seem to be protesting common core and its stupidity by now refusing to take the tests and walking out of class.
Back in the 60s I don't think we would have known the difference or been smart enough to figure it out.
