One more turn should do it!

Kent, Ohio

« on: February 28, 2015, 03:32:37 PM »

Just taking a stroll thru the VRCC site before I go up to bed. I've been on call since Monday the 23rd.
Between all the frozen water line calls, backed up sewers and main line water breaks. Mother Nature is supposed to arrive around 2am Sunday with another 6-8 inches of that lovely white sh*t! Coupled with sub-zero temps most of the week. It has made for along, challenging week. Not much sleep this week. So when I have a chance I try to get what I can. Not as easy as it use to be. I am not getting any younger.
Enough bitchin and complaining. I know I don't have the market cornered on the stuff above.
Just like everyone else here that lives in the northern climate. I can't wait for riding season! This will be my first full season with my Valk! I have had motorcycles most of my adult life. First one bought at 16. Didn't buy my first car 'til 20. I am sooo excited to ride that Valk. Can't ever remember being this excited. I love this bike. Oops, I mean I love my wife and kids. I like the Valk. Wifey always quick to correct me on that one.

can't say I ever had a water line or sewer line break, but did have our sump pump fail in 1995 or so and came home from work with with 2" of standing water ALL OVER our 24x48' basement after a huge rainfall in 12 hours coming home from work, what a MESS.  In spring or after very heavy rains, if NO sump pump, we will always have standing 1" or so of standing water in our basement.   I have about 4 backup sump pumps now just in case but does no good if not home to make sure they are working.

As far as the white stuff,  I can deal with it, the high winds with snowfall suck though making 6" of snowfall pile up to 3-4 foot drifts.

Dont' worry, ONLY 1 more month of this crap am sure by April 1st or thereabouts we will be on 2 wheels again.  Roll Eyes

hey pies, what year valk did you get?   Like you I have had bikes most of my life. First one at 21, (parents would not sign for me) 450 honda, that summer left on a cross country ride that covered 19 states 9000+ miles and ive been riding ever since. 5 bikes later on a vtx1300 took my first trip to sturgis. Saw a valkyrie had to have one. Found it a 1998 1500c that I rode for a year till the 2014s came out, sold the 1500 to a harley friend for trip rides we take and got a 2014.   WOW what a ride. got it last oct and put 1300 miles on it before the weather closed in. Spent the winter customising it now am ready for this season. ride with my brother, He has a harley both my brother-in-laws and sisters ride on their harley trikes, and 3 to 5 other friends. So on any given day we could have 3 to 9 bikes riding, good times. Ride safe!!!!!! woofred

pias , I did the same work for the last fourty years. If I am out in the cold , It's if I want to be. My primary job was truck and equipment repair , but the kids were not worth a darn to do the work.
I am retired and visiting my wifes daughter in Lebanon Ohio.

   Prez,
Say hi to Greg Hartsook while you are in Lebanon. I met him years ago when I was painting the roads all over the state of Ohio.
I enjoy my job 8-9 months out of the year. Dec. thru Feb. is a real PIA! Nothing wants to work, temps are miserable. The worst part is the hours. The length of as well as un-predictable. After 20 yrs, it just gets harder, not easier. I'm not getting any younger. You hit the nail on the head about the younger guys! They don't care. Hell, just this past Sunday 3 of them pulled a 16 hour shift from Sun at 4pm til Mon at 7am. They all went home sick after their shift! In turn we were short handed all day and the residents lines keep freezing and the roads still need plowed!
Oh well gotta go to work. Thanks for listening!
