Went on a N Gas job there last year and  back home now  and cant stop thinkin about Texas!

No, its not a vagina thing at all.

The people were so friendly and honest!     Up here in the north  its opposite.

If I didn't own this house here I'd be gone.

I went to the rattlesnake roundup in sweetwater and if you ask anyone  where  you from they   talk to you like  a cousin .

I ve been reading  a book , the history of the Comanche Indians .     The Comanches raided Texas ,  parts of  OK, CO. WY , NM. , and went further from there.  Largest tribe in the nation.

If you've never passed thru Texas     its a great ride ,  about every 60 miles you role thru a small town ,  and always something to do.

ask someone how you doin?  and the next thing you know  you have a new friend.

Hurrah for Texas .

Maybe other parts of the USA are like Texas I sure .

ps --  I rode my Vakyrie  to Buffalo Gap.   WONDERFUL

Texas hill country rocks!!!  I love that area.

Just don't ride there at night... the four hoof forest critters haven't figured out that headlights are BAD.

I've met about 20 years ago some southern bells I believe from TX with that southern charm accent.  They were so sweet and down to earth, I just liked to listen to them talk.  It didn't hurt they were HOT!  Grin

sorry, corrected!

When I was much younger I worked in the oilfields of eastern New Mexico and West By God Texas. Met some great people out there. Worked my ass off too. I learned to drive a big truck out there at the age of 19. Turned that into an almost 30 year job (so far) with a major oil company. Texas is on our short list of places to go when we retire in a few years.

Today (March 2nd) is Texas Independence Day.  In 1836, the Republic of Texas was born after winning independence from Mexico.  It stood as an independent nation for just over 9 years, after which it was annexed by the United States.  Fly your Lone Star State flags today!

The Texas flag and the US flag fly at my house, 24/7.  Due to our winds, they get replaced 3-4 times a year.  At night there is a light on them.

I put in the flag pole when the current POTUS was elected, I feared he'd try to make the flag illegal, and I wanted to be "grandfathered" by having the pole in place.  At the time, I thought I was being paranoid, now I'm not so sure.

If it were, I would move there in a second.

My Grandfather's place was a couple miles out of Medina on highway 16.  Spent a lot of summers down there and wish I had stayed on the place after he passed.  Stopped by on my way home from my Son's in Phoenix at Christmas.  Sure brought back a lot of good memories.

If I remember right wasn't the annexation of Texas by the U.S. conditional?

God Bless Texas, by the way.

I have an ex wife in Garrison Tx.(east Tx.). Trucked ALL over Texas. The sun has riz the sun has set and here I is in Texas yet!  2funny IF I was to ever leave Missouri I'd be givin Texas first pick.  cooldude I've gone from the ice and snow and cold of Amarillo to the warm breezes of the gulf in a day and a half. I've seen ice and snow at D/FW and a time or 2 round bout Houston. IF I were to go back would NOT consider a major metro area. Back around the Big Piney close to Louisiana. 59 North outa Houston those roadside BBQ stands are GOOD!  coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

If you stop every 60 miles while riding through TX, it will take a week to get to the other side. I spent 3 days riding through from LA (few days in New Orleans) going toward CO. All local roads and somewhere I have a picture of a speed limit sign with a posted 22 1/2 MPH and Texas Rangers took your credit card as soon as you signed the citation.
Having spent my formative years in FL, I was accustomed to non-Floridians not realizing how long it takes to drive from the panhandle to the gold coast of FL. Once I traveled to Texas I realized something:
Damn y'all got a big state!

If it wasn't for the blood, sweat and tears of many brave Tennessee Volunteers, Texas probably would have never achieved independence.  God Bless Tennessee!

Not long after I moved here, I visited my sister in Chicago. The day I got home, I had a job interview in El Paso. I remember thinking, "Oh crap, another long trip. Oh well, at least it's not as far as Chicago."

Distance from Texarkana to Chicago - 793 miles.
Distance from Texarkana to El Paso - 809 miles.

                                        Shocked

There is a fellow with the same name as me living in Exmouth England. We've been pen pals for years. I was telling him about driving almost 6 hours to get to Freeport from my house. He commented that if he drove for 6 hours in almost any direction, be soon be very wet.

I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I learned enough to know better.
