Neither am I.  When I read about what the preppers do, I'm really standing here holding nothing but my johnson.  Last week, I went to the grocery just to pick up a couple things, hadn't heard the weather report.  The line was over an hour long to check out, and all dozen or so registers were manned, and a big line for the self-checkouts. This is a BIG grocery, almost a big-box store (King Soopers). Turns out a mild snowstorm was forecast and everyone panicked. Parking lot almost completely full. Holy Crap, are all these people living literally hand to mouth?  I put my basket of groceries back, I have enough on hand for much more than a few days so I'm not standing in line for an hour but by no means am I ready for TEOTWAWKI or even TSHTF.

I need to start reviewing the prepper vids on youtube.  And gear up.  For sure I need a combat / bug-out harness, MREs and the like, lots of canned & dry goods.  I wasn't a SEAL.  Or a jar-head.  Not even a grunt.  I was a weapons mechanic (armorer) aka muzzle fckr aka BB stacker.  Yeah I know a little about guns but only a little.  I can build a Regime Change Rifle. Or tune triggers. Need to bone up on survival.  How to haul my gear.  What gear to haul.  Maybe I better go see if I can find my lost guns.

Comments?  Tips.

Guys I think this is gonna get ugly before it gets better.  But I'm cursed if I'm going to live on my knees. I've said enough today.  I'm sure I'm on a list.

F YOU OBAMA.  Best gun salesman since Slick Willy and the Brady Bunch.  Now he's trying to make up for it with his pen.

Like any other projects, the best way to go about it is reading and study and prioritizing, and then a little bit here and there.  I'm prepared for the early waves of zombies, and probably a few weeks (maybe two months).

Only way for me to do (much) better is to move away from ground zero.

Right now I have nowhere to go, so my plan works pretty much like the Alamo (without the flintlocks).

Pretty hard to stand 24-hour watches on your own, permanently.  What I need is an Eastern mountaintop redoubt in need of a good sheppard with a bunch of good gear and skills, who can earn his keep.

MarkT,  I understand your concern. A bit of advice, don't tell a Southern redneck that you will be coming to take his stuff. I was told that. I calmly told this nice fella from up north in a big city to be sure and kiss his family goodbye before he makes the trip. We have a lot of deep hollers and caves and suck holes down here and he would be in one before he could pull his switch blade out.  Lots of people down here have been quietly prepping for a long, long time, but they don't really call it prepping.  I, like you, am old enough to not care any more about my own safety as much as safety for my children and grandchildren.  There are alot of folks in the South in our boots., and I am sure,  all around this country.  hen it happens, it won't be pretty and it will be merciless. It saddens me to even think about this.  O dumb butt has slapped this nation in the face and has laughed at us as he did it. Many have turned the other cheek and got it slapped as well. There comes a time when you just have to slap back, except not like a little pu@#y like he is, but with some meaning behind it.  I love this Nation and hate to see it become nothing but a bunch of money hungry, power seeking politicians playing politics to get nothing done in record speed. I'm tired of overtaxing the middle class, low middle class and even some folks with money while the big power players scoot by with their billions buying off the politicians and lawyers who are so corrupt that they would sell their mother for the right price.  Just because you are rich, own companies and employ people, and pay some taxes is no excuse for how the big guns are acting and pulling all the strings.     Of course, the Great Equalizer will set it all straight in the end, but that could be a long time off. People should govern themselves with more dignity and honour than what is going on now days, and being shoved down our throats.     OK, I've blabbed enough today as well. later my friend cooldude

Something to think about....

(btw....The maker of this movie never got a chance to finish it.  He and his entire family were murdered...some say by the government).

Don't sugar coat it Mark, tell us how you really feel!
Naw, seriously, I agree with ya. Think it's gonna get worse.
My brother & I have a "rough outline" of who, what, when, where, & how, but we're not serious "preppers" so to speak. For us it revolves mostly around immediate survival (whatever the event may be) & longer term sustainability (again, depending on what said event may be).
My brother is a gun nut & well trained. I trust him with our families immediate survival & wont question his tactics in a clutch. His wife & myself are the techies/book worms. We get to figure out how to get the lights back on (knowledge is power) & goods to barter (I've had some smithy experience, can repurpose metal). My wife has that nurturing, calm soul that keeps the home fires burning, & can cook anything we bring in as long as we keep the firewood comin'.
We've got a good rally point in the mountains with ample game, year round fresh water, plentiful lumber (for cooking, heating, & building shelter) but most important is what it doesn't have, people! Pretty isolated, & with some fairly basic tools & skills you can greatly increase you chances of survival. (You don't have to bury a shipping container, but by all means, if you can afford too................)
When (not if) the system finally breaks down completely, the lights go off & stay off, no more fuel at the pumps, & the groceries stop coming, most will simply starve.
Me & mine are gonna be hid way back up in the woods!
Here's something for ya to think about. You know what we'll likely miss most (& pretty quickly at that)? The modern convenience we've all come to take for granted & are most dependent on for our very survival?
Refrigeration! It's back to salt it or smoke it & waste not want not.
(I'm workin' on plans for our solar deep freezer, seriously!)

Actually, the principle for utilizing solar refrigeration is not that complicated.  Execution could be a bit tricky.  You would basically be utilizing the same principle and apparatus used in a propane, butane, or natural gas powered refrigerator.  It's an ammonia based coolant that is heated to provide the change from liquid to gas and to provide the pressure differential for flow through the cooling coils.  The difference would be that you'd have to utilize a solar based circuit to provide that heat.  You would also have to ensure adequate insulation to maintain the temperature in the refrigeration chamber during cloudy days and at night.  Look into propane refrigeration to get the idea and understand the function.

Swiss Chris Vector carbine.  45acp (pistol round semiauto light carbine, under 6lbs).  The bolt swings back and down, so there is no muzzle rise, but still a kick.  Glock 21 mags (13), and conversions to 30.

I have been looking for a pistol round light semiauto carbine for some time, and really in 9mm (for cartridge expense), but this thing is the cat's pajamas in new tech. Originally a subgun SBR to compete with the MP5 crowd; this is the non-NFA civilian variant (there's also a pistol, but not for me).  Bbl shroud is not a suppressor.  New, prices are prohibitive, but I found a sweetheart deal lightly used with extras I could not pass up.

As noted in the 2d video, early ones (2008+) had some hickups and complaints, but have all now been addressed.
