Our 8 year old Sealy is starting to sink in the middle and has seen better days. Besides, it's always slept kinda hot. Looked at most of the "S" (Sealy, Serta, Simmons, etc) mattresses....but most are $1200 to $1800 bucks. Tempur Pedic is way out of the budget....and we hear they sleep hot to very hot. Don't trust the mattress outlet stores...at all. Not paying for over priced crap. Found what perhaps seems like a viable alternative....maybe....mattresses in a box. Anyone have any experience with these? Both offer King's for less than a grand. http://www.leesa.com/https://casper.com/Both offer 100 day return policies and they both advertise that they sleep cool. I need cool.

Never liked the Tempur's because of the heat also. Bought a select comfort bed 15+ years ago and love it. We just bought the classic (basic) wife has a tempur topper on her side. I love never flipping a mattress again. No experience with the ones you listed.

I have heard that if you buy a Tempur pedic and put a pillow top mattress cover on them they are cool and comfortable.

3" Talalay Latex topper on any mattress makes a huge difference and Latex does not get hot. Wife was thinking our older mattress was too hard and after looking at a lot of expensive mattresses an older guy in one mattress shop told us to try one of these and 3 years later we are still very happy with it.

We had a waterbed for the better part of thirty years. Love love loved it. However, where we live now, it's not practical. Also, don't know where they sell them anymore. The last place around here that had waterbeds closed up shop years ago.

Memory foam is hot (mattresses or toppers). Most all all mattress pads are full of polyester, and hot. There are a couple memory foams that are claimed to be less-hot. I have two high dollar king mattresses (one soft, one less soft), I used to have a 2" memory foam topper on. I loved it, but not in summer. For me, hot means no sleep or miserable sleep. What finally worked for me in hot weather was to install the smallest 600btu AC unit in a master bedroom window. I have good central air, but trying to keep the upstairs master cool in hot weather required keeping the house like a refrigerator, even with the basement vents closed (3-level split)(and drove the electric bill way up). Now, in hot weather, I turn the central AC up to 80 at night, keep the master bedroom doors closed with the small window unit (pretty quiet) at 70 on low, and run the overhead fan over the bed all night. The master is like a small breezy fridge (and I love it, and sleep like the dead), and the cost for electric went down. The spousal unit complained so I dumped two down comforters on her side, with just a sheet and lite cotton blanket on mine. When she continued to complain I invited her to sleep elsewhere... and later that turned out to be about 17 miles south of me. The latex topper sounds like a good idea. The right topper can make a failing mattress into a great bed, if it's not HOT.

When it comes to mattresses, you get what you pay for. You spend over 1/3 of your life in the bed. Don't be cheap. Get the best that you can afford. Go and try them and don't look at the price. We just bought a bed that each side is custom made for each person. Was it cheap...NO, it cost $2800. But we both sleep like rocks now. With our other bed, I found it great but my wife found it too firm. She suffered for almost 10 years on a bed that was too firm for her. So, I decided to bite the bullet and put the crowbar to the wallet.

My wallet is impervious to $2800 mattresses. Ain't gonna happen.

Costco ..... can't go wrong. Bought this one last year and it replaced my 12 year old memory foam mattress. Not hot and comes in a box compressed down so it takes about 4 or five hours to expand. http://www.costco.com/Novaform%C2%AE-13%22-Rhythm-Queen-Memory-Foam-Mattress.product.100043970.htmlWhen it's time, I'll get another memory foam mattress.

For the past 2 or 3 decades I went to the nearest warehouse club store and bought a brand name mattress without giving it much thought. 2 years ago I took a few days and went shopping and tested everything out there. They say you should lay on the mattress at least 7 minutes when test driving them. I ended up with a Simmons Beautyrest from Sears. They had them half price at the time, $1500 vs $3000. I wish I had done this long ago.

Best sleep I ever got was 3" of mostly worn out foam on an aluminium sheet with the ship doin 18 knots in the middle of the pacific. Navy trainin, man, I can sleep. On a beach, in the rain, in Febuary at 0200. No problem. Waterbed, MmmmmmMMMMmmmmmm. Select comfort, loved it. Sealy, sleeping pretty good but the years of abuse are catching up. I have a sheet, a Hudson Bay woll 5 striper and a downn comforter on the bed in the summer even. Wife gets out when she's medium well and goes out to the couch. I never know.

Whatever you get, shop around for the best possible price since varies widely. We have a serta mattress queen size thinking we spent 600-700 bucks on about 10-12 years ago. I am not a firm believer you have to get a new mattress every 7-10 years if still can sleep comfortably on it. Our old one bought around 1990 lasted over 12 years but was getting broke down and I kept sneezing on it guessing from all the dust mites or whatever living inside am sure plus dead skin, etc. over the years. As soon as we got our current mattress, the sneezing stopped completely. One thing mattress companies do not make hardly anymore is flippable mattresses front to back flipping, ONLY made to sleep on one side nowadays to cut costs down just spinning them occassionally is all.
Wish I would have known you needed one when our company had a private employee only sale for customer returns, etc. on all NF inventory (mostly garbage crap no one needs made in China) and saw a few mattresses in a huge, heavy box. Had some king/queen sizes, etc. and my co-worker took a chance on one and bought a king size mattress (memory foam) in a box for 15 bucks (highest marked price of any item being 15 bucks). You have to unfold it once out of the box and let sit a few days to retain it's full sized before use. She says money well spent and just like a normal mattresss, if not better she said. For 15 bucks, who cares, might as well try it out and buy it if needing one.
I only spent 1 buck is all on the sale since mostly knick knack junk and women's clothes, but all the ladies were in heaven spending shopping carts and huge flat carts full of 1-15 dollar items normally valued at tons more in price. Reason only spent 1 buck, I am trying to get rid of vs. adding to my basement stash accumulated over the past 20+ years.
