Just ordered me a set of moto wings in dark smoke and flame design for my IS. I have read about the reinforcement some have done to keep the pods from cracking. Anyone have any info on this?

Does the aluminum stock on both sides of the pod work? Maybe some 1/4" stainless on bith sides would work even better. 1 1/2" wide, trying to get some feed back from guys that have done this.

Don't know don't have them ,never understood what they do. I ride mine the way mother Honda made it.
I get a bunch of air over the top of the tank to my chest and hope this will cure that. I know smokin joe swears by them and wont have a bike without them. I didnt know mother honda made a valkyrie with a woodys fairing  im just messing with ya, it looks great. |

I don't know what others have done, but I switched to stainless wings on my Bakers, I jb welded steel mesh inside my pods. I figured with the extra weight I would need to worry more about cracking the pods. Two years later and I don't have any problems.

Here's what I did. I drilled a single hole at the front of the air wing support arm. I then pushed a zip tie up through the hole, over the support arm, and back down again through the same hole. Pulling the zip tie tight provides a tripod-like support that relieves the twisting torque on the original two mounting points for the air wing. It's easy to do and re-do when necessary. I've been through some incredible winds and cross-winds with this setup and the pods haven't cracked.  |

Meathead, Next time you're riding with someone that has the Bakers, take a ride on that bike (but ask pretty please first) and use them in the open position and then close them and feel what a dramatic impact they can have. One day my bride and I were riding and as the day heated up I forgot that I had them closed and then just leaned down and opened them and my wife asked me who turned on the air conditioning.

Yes I have an I/S with them and one without. Guess what I'll be doing soon. Oh and be advised, I have traveled great distances at great speed with nothing more than stock installation and no stress cracks yet. 90+ mph all day long getting across Texas and New Mexico and no cracks.

I'm going to reinforce them with some stainless stock on both sides of the pod just to be on the safe side. I also ordered the Big Bike Things fork deflectors. Maybe between the 2 it will create a dead spot where I sit. |
