They use a smaller one for trikes? Stock size would be 150/80/17 wouldn't it?

We're running a Bridgestone Battlewing size 150/70/17 this tire is a little smaller in diameter but is no problem, it does throw the speedo off about 3-5 miles per hour, as far as handling and the extra rubber on the road we can adjust for the speed in difference....it puts an extra inch on the ground and almost double the amount of rubber thickness...I get the tire from Jake Wilson Tires free shipping to the door for $117...can't beat that and it's a radial tire...here's a pic...

I understand the reversing direction of a rear tire. What I missed is why you quoted a smaller then stock size of even a front tire.

Same reason I'm running a 140 75 Michelin Commander II.... that's as close as you can get to 150 80 in that tire.  A good tire that's close to OE size, you cannot really tell the difference. (though your speedo might)
