For the second time?

And last summer was going to be my first ever Inzane, but instead had to go to Birmingham, Al to get cut open?

And I almost died on the operating table?

And I was in a coma for the better part of three weeks?

Well, it turns out that after taking out some more body parts and sewing me back up, the latest PET/CT scan shows that they "didn't get it all".

There are more masses.

Apparently, more surgery is too big a risk now.

I have to start chemo soon.

Sumbitch.   Angry

My Valk isn't getting much love lately....and it sure is a lot heavier than it used to be.   Sad

Sorry to hear of your struggles, BF.  Don't ever give up.  The Caribbean Queen is an oncology nurse and she keeps telling me that just within the last few years, chemo has gotten better and better, and her patients are also doing better and better.  Prepare for the side effects, but also prepare to get well!

My goodness BF, so sorry to hear that.  Wish you well with your treatment.  I visited you in the ICU after your last surgery, but not sure if you remembered it.  So many Dragon Riders were concerned about you.  If there is anything I can do for you or your family just let me know.  I live in the Hoover area, just south of Birmingham.  Will put you on the prayer list.

Keep fighting, keep wining, keep posting, and ride when you can.  Perhaps going to Maggie Valley in June would help.  Check to Florida section for details.

Hang tough BF,  you are not alone, I can tell you without reservation that it is a fight worth fighting.  They are making giant strides in cancer research and treatments.  I went through similar, and thought I had it whipped, but in two years it came back, did the same debulking and chemo round again, and the chemo wasn't effective the second go round.  Got into a Clinical Trial about 2 1/2 years ago, and after 2 years the tumors were reduced 46%.  I believe the future of cancer treatment is targeted theraphy where the treatment targets the disease directly without affecting the healthy parts of the body.  I take a couple of capsules a day, and the side effects are nothing like the normal chemo.  Will be winging good thoughts and prayers your way for a positive outcome.

Thanks you guys.   cooldude

I am NOT giving up on anything.  Just like with the other bouts with this crap, I'm considering it just a temporary setback.

Not looking forward to the effects of the chemo, but supposedly, I'll be in good hands.

The doctors (I've got appointments with two oncologists) that my urologist is sending me to are directly associated with MD Anderson in Texas.

From what he told me, MD Anderson is supposed to be the premier cancer people on the planet.

And like some of you guys have said, apparently they have made great strides with the chemo thing.....because just a couple years ago, there was NO treatment for kidney cancer.  Now there is from what he's told me.

It's gonna be another adventure.   Roll Eyes

BF, sorry to hear that you have to deal with this one more time. When you are with the MD Anderson folks, ask them about the latest experimental treatments where they inject certain viruses directly into the cancer. This seems to be working in the trials with few negative effects. Keep your spirits up brother and my prayers are with you.  G

MD Anderson is all that and more.  That's where I am enrolled in the clinical trial.  Am on a 28 day rotation, with a CT every second visit.  Mariott has a hotel connecting with MD by skyway, and I usually stay there.  They also have a parking garage.  Their number is 713 790-1600, and it is called the Rotary House.  If you self park rather than Valet it is cheaper.  Usually about 150 a night including parking.  If you go you need to make reservations early as possible as it stays pretty well full.  You do have to be a patient there to get a room.  If you need anymore info or anything give me a PM>

MDA is a wonderful institution. Our youngest daughter went there with a Stage IV form of cancer three years ago.

She in now cancer free, running marathons and leading a completely normal life.

Had she continued the course of treatment initially commenced at Johns Hopkins and not transferred to MDA she would have died.

She and her husband did a lot of research, made a judgement call & changed to MDA.

Sorry about the recurrence, have a friend here who cycles between chemo and radiation, and you are in my prayers. The researchers are making progress. Have another friend whose bladder cancer was treated with TB germs. I'm the lucky one, lung cancer, lumpectomy, no chemo, no radiation, no revisit after several years, so far so good. He's just not done with either of us yet.
