The new Valkyrie front tire is a weird size (130/60R-19)... the only
available tires are OEM Dunlop and a bias-ply Dunlop that they
run on some Harleys.

There's a lot of choices in 120/70-19, including a good old Avon Cobra.

The first number is width, so 120 is about 1/4 inch more narrow than 130.

The second number is a kind of ratio, that difference is not so obvious to me.

If I got a 120/70-19 instead of a 130/60-19, would the difference be "meh",
or would it be "Holy Crap, I can't use this!"? I don't want to pay $150 for
a 2-inches-too-tall bicycle tire that I can't use, and I'd like more choices
than Dunflop...

The rear is more normal, they don't have Cobras in 180/55R-17 , but there's some nice
looking high performance tires in that size for sport/touring bikes.

Hey Hubcapsc...Not a tire expert but here is what I found...

Tire 1 - 130/60/19
Tire 2 - 120/70/19

Results
Sidewall Height
Tire 1 - 3.07
Tire 2 - 3.31
Diff - 0.24

Section Width
Tire 1 - 5.12
Tire 2 - 4.72
Diff - -0.4

Overall Diameter
Tire 1 - 25.14
Tire 2 - 25.61
Diff - 0.47

Circumference
Tire 1 - 78.99
Tire 2 - 80.47
Diff - 1.48

Revs per Mile
Tire 1 - 802.18
Tire 2 - 787.38
Diff - -14.8

Speedo reads 65mph
Actually speed 66.22mph

So...basically, your chosen tire is 1/4" taller and about 1/2" narrower.  Expected results should be a very little more nimble feel as you don't have a narrower tire up front.  Personally, if it meant having a more accessible tire, I would make the change.

that's a pretty cool app... the 130 already seems pretty skinny, almost half an inch skinnier
might be more than I bargained for, maybe not... the 1/4 taller might not be too bad... the
app sez the speedo wouldn't be off that much, and if it spins around fewer times per mile, the
tire might last longer...

My GL1800 Gold Wing gets the speedo off the back - did they move it to the front on the new Valk?

Also - when I've gone to narrower tires in front, handling got more nimble.  However the bike also got harder to ride in loose dirt/sand/deep gravel.

This might be helpful.

Looks like the Michelin Commander II also comes in the 120/70-19.  It's a good tire.

I don't know about the speedo, I was just assuming... they probably didn't change
it, I'll have to look...

"Nimble" is a good way to describe the difference between the old Valkyrie and
the new one, but I don't think the "solid" way the old Valkyrie goes through
turns is a bad thing. Getting squirrely in the sand or gravel might be bad though...

I wish Honda didn't put that weird tire on there... maybe the 120/70 will be an
option... or the Shinko... if Britman likes them they must not be all bad...

I've worn a big flat spot on the rear Dunlop already... less than 2000 miles on the
bike. I've been running 40 pounds, I wonder if I should run more?
