Hey guys.  Not that Lazurus has been resurrected and is running (and I do love the ride of the IS) I had a request for information and paint finishing from Savago and a couple other guys on the General Board.  So, last night I had a couple beers and some time and since my wife dropped the saddlebag lid  tickedoff  I had to break out the equipment anyway to see what I could salvage.  So, while I was at it, I decided to re-finish the trunk box.  Those top flat surfaces that rain and dust just sit on always stain up and have the most paint damage.  Here are some videos for those that want to follow along with how I do it when I really want to get it as perfect as possible.  However.......

WARNING:
A perfect paint job could be hazardous to your mental health.  If you ever get it to where you think it is nearly perfect, you could quite literally drive yourself insane trying to keep it that way.

Here is the first half of the short videos.  I am having some upload problems with a couple of the other ones.  As soon as they publish correctly I will post them up.

Disclaimer..... There are multiple ways to detail and multiple ways to get the same basic result.  LOTS of people will have different systems and techniques and use different products and make arguments for which pad, buffer, chemical, cloth, coffee and beer are the best for detailing.  I used 3m for a long time, and switched to Meguiar's simply because of the availability at pretty much every autoparts store around.  Lots of other products will do the same thing.

As a teaser, here is the finished product.

There is a big ugly spot on that lid....OH WAIT...that is you!!!  Never mind!!! Embarrassed Embarrassed Evil Evil

The real question is...do you travel?  If so, there are two black bikes in my garage that could use a really good cleaning/detailing.  Cheesy  I would even feed you something good.

Looking good there DP...keep up the good work and thanks for posting the information on how to do it.  Now...I just have to save up the energy to go do it myself...since you aren't coming over anytime soon.  Grin

I have worked on that ugly blemish as much as I can and it just keeps getting worse and worse.

Thanks. Excellent info.

I have been using 3M for years also and switched to Meguiars. Actually 3M bought Meguiars several years ago.

Instead of using carnauba yellow wax I have excellent results switching to Zaino Brothers products. They provide a better shine that lasts much longer.

Put on about 4-5 base coats and then just use their detailer spray to maintain it.

I will have to check that out MG.

Here are a few more updates.  All the way to almost the end.  I still go back and put a couple more coats of extreme depth carnauba.  Great stuff.
