I am in the process of sprucing up a very nice set of Interstate Saddlebags.  The latches had some pitting, it was minor, but the rest of the bags are so nice I wanted the latches to be nice too, so I ordered new ones.  To my dismay...new latches do not come with the lock mechanism.  So I figured, no problem I would just transfer the mechanism over from the old ones.

Here is where the magic trick comes in.  to get the lock out there is a circlip that you pry off and then the barrel pops out.  So I got the other parts switched over and put the barrel and the locking tab back on and NO CIRCLIP.  It vanished.  I searched until I was crazy checking even places it NEVER could have gotten to.

Im sure I can go to a parts place and get a package of them things, but still its irritating I did the work at the kitchen table on a big soft towel so this exact thing wouldn't happen......oh well good plan but murphy still got me.....the dang thing simply isint there!  :tickedoff:

Well so now that the latches are off I can finish buffing these beauties out and soon they will appear on the classifieds.  They are as new except for a couple very minor and very small scratches that you have to know they are there to see them even up close.

So a bit of "spit shining" and new hardware and these are going to be looking for a new home.

Tiny spring loaded parts suck.   :-\

This is exactly why carburetors and I have such a rocky relationship.  :tickedoff:

Back when I had to wear corporate casual clothes at work, I spend hours looking for some tiny thing that had been traveling around with me the whole time, in my pants cuff.  Discovered only when I removed the pants...... ping.  Forehead smack!

The only place I can think that the clip went is that one of our little dogs that eats anything got it.  Searching poop is a bit beyond my line in the sand of places Im willing to look!

Am sure it will show up when you least suspect it like when you get it all put together and done/sold.

I searched for over 2+ hours on a bungee cord I prefer (thicker/wider and right sized) in my basement I knew was around could NOT find.  A few months later I walk around in my basement and found it right in front of my eyes sitting on a wooden hutch in plain sight.  I was so ticked!   No idea why I put it there vs. my normal place I would have put it.    Key placement in our house is a hot topic as well just this morning I could not find the car keys so I called up the wife who was at work.  She suggested on the table or in my black sweatshirt.   Well,  black sweatshirt was it thank god I had to get going soon this morning.

As I get older,  I do more stupid _hit like this more and more wondering where the heck did I put this or that just minutes ago?   :'(

I knew it.  As soon as I went out and bought another one that dang blasted thing would show up.  Judy was vacuuming the family room, and it was right there next to the Valkyrie.  I guess it was trapped in my clothes as I walked out there for a tool or something.  Its all good since the new ones weren't stainless.  Now its all back like new.  So I am very motivated now to get working on them bags!!  :cooldude:

I lost a nut once. Looked for hours for it and never found it, got home from work and took my boots off and it was stuck in the treads.

Talk about Murphy's Law... A good friend of mine just bought a set of blue and silver ones and had them painted black and silver to go on a black standard. We installed them this week. He bought a bunch of stuff off a guy that had triked one.
You will sell those quickly Chris....Pinwall want 700 for all skinned up ones. :crazy2:

Thanks for the confirmation T-Bird.  I was used to pricing out damaged parts at low low prices after the crashed IS I had to (sadly) part out.  These will do someone proud but I still wanted to be fair.

ya too bad, timing was off..........oh well, someone will need these......

OK, lower price or Ill entertain reasonable offers before putting these on EBAY or Craigslist.  I wanted the club to get first shot at these because they just don't come around this nice very often.

I sold a set like that 3 years ago for 500 bucks. Yes that was cheap but they went to a good home.

I have more than that in these..........I guess you made someone very happy.

Help me out you Interstate owners.  I had a member who was going to buy these for his black and silver Standard.  These bags look black and silver inside.  When I took them out to the truck to take them to get shipped the sunlight made them look gold.  So I called the buyer and he looked it up.  Honda didn't make an Interstate with black and "silver" like they did for the Standard, so these wont match his bike.

So he said he thought they were black and ocean grey metallic or maybe "champagne"

So bottom line they are still for sale, they are still beautiful they just aren't black and silver.  I took a picture outside, and I think this is the best I can do to represent the color, can anyone tell me what Honda Interstate color this is.

Thanks in advance!
