Hi guys!!! (and girls). Since I did the conversion on my bike, I love it, the members in my riding group who have Goldwings want to know if it can be done on their bikes. I looked and could not find anything at all. Any suggestions? ( Besides buying a real Motorcycle). coolsmiley coolsmiley

Had to go back and look at past posts, he's asking if you can do the mod's to a Wing that are done to a Interstate, to go from OEM to Super Valk and back.

Pretty sure its a one way trip... there is a kit to loose the trunk, but because of the plastic and the way goes together, no way to "drop" the trunk back on.

That would explain why we cannot find anything on doing the conversion. Oh well........

In that video it appears the cuts made in the support only drop straight down, not down and back as they're supposed to be. Am I right or is it just not showing up real good? You surely don't want those slots to be only veritcal, it's a good way to lose a trunk. Should be able to drop it down on the mounting bolts and pull back slightly.

I think your right John, I'm not familiar with Interstate conversions at all, but when I saw the vid I thought it looked like the trunk could pop out if not torqued down.   Seemed dangerous for the passenger.

When I did the modification, I did not do the fancy cut as I saw on the site. I did see another member who did a more "simple" slot. It worked out better for me. Even when the trunk is not torqued down, it will not come off as easily as expected. But, with the concern you have, which is valid, I was thinking about putting 2 securing pins, one on both sides. Like the ones we use on boat the keep the Bimini top in place. I would never my wife sit on the bike if I believed that there could be a problem. You know what? I love conversations like this. THIS is why the group is so valuable!

By all means do that with the pins to secure it. The front slots should have had a forward slot cut in them, very easy to have done. You have to remove a bit of the underside up front so you can tilt the back up, hook it in the front slot, drop it down and pull it back to engage the vertical rear slots. No chance of it coming loose then and much more stable. Safety first with the wife on the back.  cooldude
