Anybody have any experience with Lisinopril ? Had a cold, Went to the doc cause my BP meds needed to be refilled. Doc upped my dosage last month, Developed a cough, thought it was a cold. Got so bad went to clinic, reg doc was busy, Other doc put me antibiotic, week later went to clinic, reg doc busy, same clinic doc asked me if I had chest pains, Hell yes I said, Ribs are sore, diaphragm sore , shoulders are sore, 2 to 3 hours of sleep a night. Cough nothing up, but expect to see something furry come thru pretty soon. stronger antibiotics, inhaler, steroid inhaler, week  and a half later,Set up appointment for regular doc on fri. Told them I went off Lisinopril, would be in fri, to figure something else.

Apologize for the rant but trying to get something off or out of my chest.

Sorry to TP , TP called to tell me the State ride site is partailly up. (Valk related) Wasn't real talkative.

I've been taking lisinopril for 10+ years and have not experienced your symptoms.  You may want to get a cardiac work up. Not to be a buzz kill, but constant coughing especially at night when lying down can be a symptom of congestive heart failure. Don't ask me how I know.

I took it for 5+ years before I had my gastric bypass, which negated the need for blood pressure meds (And many others) for me... Never had any problems remotely like that in all that time.

been on it for two years, no problem till he doubled my dose. Am also on Atenenol and hyrdrochlorothiazide,we'll see what happens on friday. Good news is cough is receding. Talked to a fellow rider sat. he says he knows of four people it affected. Will talk to doc and see what he recommends. Sounds like all the ace inhibitors can do this.

Not a doc but when I looked Lisinopril up all the things it did was for the heart. If you have a heart condition then ok but if you have the flu then why would they prescribe this without checking your heart? Just got over the flu 102 temp chest really tight, cough, phlegm was green and chest hurt from coughing. But nothing came up till on the antibiotics for a few days then phlegm with dark colored came up not a good sign but it was finally coming out and I could breath easier.

Originally went to doc to get my blood pressure meds renewed. After a year they require a check up before they let you have another years worth of refills. Apparently if you have a cold or flu your pressure can rise a bit. He didn't ask, I didn't  know better. He upped my meds . Been coughing since. Went back because of "the cough".

Been on lisinopril little over 6 years. I cough a little but NOT every day. I'm coughing less now then when I was smoking 4+ packs a day. I also take hydrochlorothorizide and 2 more meds that are prescribed. Blood pressure-arthritis and indigestion-all three kick my butt iffin I don't take my meds.  Lips Sealed NOT always better living thru chemistry!  crazy2 Now when I first laid down my smokes the first year I DID NOT believe WHAT I was coughing up!  Lips Sealed The sad part about WHAT was coming up was it was ALL self induced!  uglystupid2  Evil RIDE SAFE. Are you sure that he didn't say "Turn your head and cough?"   2funny
Happens annually when you visit your sawbones.

Over one hundred years ago ninety percent of doctors had no college education.
Instead they attended so-called "medical schools", many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as 'substandard'. Shocked

Hasn't changed much, has it?  Grin

Have you read the accompanying blurbs that come with every prescription med that you get from your pharmacy?  There's some great tidbits in there to scare the bejesus out of you when taking big pharma's little pills.  Good, bad, ugly. Check it out.

Congrats on the no smoke, never started,  Wife quit long time ago, I can't imagine how hard it is to kick.  Apparently these ace inhibitors only affect a smaller percent of people. Quit drugs on Monday, cough almost gone, starting to feel human again. Can't wait till fri. to get some sort of replacement for the lisinopril.

Drugs effect everyone differently.  The first thing any of the docs should have done was a correct history and physical, which includes asking about current meds and if any were started recently.  Even changing laundry detergent can have an adverse effect on someone.

Sorry you went through nonsense but glad it's working out.

Some BP meds will do that....cause a cough. Some even develop a runny nose. I went through three different BP meds before I found one that didn't keep me up nights coughing my fool head off. Since I have a naturally low BP and slow pulse, the dr. has me on a very small dosage. What blows his mind is when I go in for a checkup he'll comment about how good the meds are working. Then I tell him I haven't taken any yet today, so he asks why are you taking them then. I tell him he's the one that ordered it. He just chuckles and we move on.

I also had a cough while taking Lisinopril... The doc changed my BP med to Irbesartan and the cough went away.  He said it's common for Lisinopril to have that effect.  Again, it effects different people... well... differently.
