Whoa, Nellie! Unbelievable how safe those cages are. Time to change the underwear for sure! Great still shots.

Yep, no doubt, Larry Dixon had the Good Lord on his side. It's amazing he didn't suffer any serious foot or leg injuries. There wasn't much left of that tubular frame to protect them...a couple feet left maybe. The car did what it was supposed to do...dissipate energy and keep the driver safe within that cage.
A lot of the safety built into the cars now is the result of John Force and his team. After Eric Medlen passed away in a crash 8 years ago, John and his team did extensive testing and came up with a lot of safety innovations including changes to the area surrounding a racer's head. When it was all said and done, he shared all the data and innovations free of charge with his competitors.
But that's not unusual in Drag Racing. For the most part, it's a close knit entity.

THAT wuz INTENSE! Wunder did the car builder figure out not only WHAT failed but WHY it failed? The still photos were more impressive than the movie of the fly by. The accident IS living proof that the modern dragster is getting safer. The very fact Dixon survived that horrifying wreck/crash/blow over is the PROOF! RIDE SAFE.

I think if I were Dixon I would have to give a big kiss to whoever was responsible for welding up that cage. Gods hands were surely on him.

Can't recall the drivers name but I believe the rail was called the yellow banana. He and that rail had a monster blow over. Driver survived but the rail came unwrapped. Seen the pro stocks and funny cars do similar things. Watched the races on T V and seen a lot of funny car bodies go airborne. RIDE SAFE.

I've watched these things for years. I'm aware of the HOW of the internal combustion engines workings. To have it laid out like this article doe's is very eye opening to say the least. I knew there was brutal conditions in yer average soccer moms vehicles engine and I've also built and blown up some race engines. But after reading about the dynamics going on in a blown fuel dragster engine all I can say is-DAMN. Knowing the WHY of a power train rebuild between runs makes a lot more sense now. I stated that I've been watching drag racing for a long time-anyone else here remember front engine rails? Been at Union Grove Wi. and seen some in person. THAT statement dates me BUT I KNOW how old I am! I also remember at U G Wi. a blower getting VERY airborne. RIDE SAFE.
