Hardwick NJ

« on: March 29, 2015, 07:28:25 AM »

That would be the 60 year old club  i hit that mark Thursday and now i can officially retire if i so choose cooldude
Don't think i will just yet Judy is 3 years behind me and she can't get her portion of my retirement check until she turns 60 so i think i'll hang around for a little while and keep the medical going. It is a good feeling though to know that if things aren't going well anymore at work i could say see ya at any time cooldude

Congrats on hitting that age when you "could" go! I'm kind of in the same boat. At Caterpillar, we can retire with a full pension at 30 years. This August will be 41 years. It just seemed that 48 yrs old was too young to retire so I just keep working and putting in to my 401k so someday I can have a far from extravagant but decent retirement-hopefully in about 2 years. I'm only 59 at present.

My advice, to everyone, get out as soon as you can. None of us know what the future holds, health-wise. Stop working while you can still make all your retirement dreams come true.

good advice, but what if you live until past say 80 (just a guess) and you have NO money left?

Just don't be like my Uncle Albert.  He is age 71, been working at the same company for 51 years, a Union job making guessing now 25 per hour, and he still says he cannot make a go of it if he retires.  He can retire easily with full pension, etc.,  he just chooses to keep working.  My guess is he doesn't want to stay home with the wife all day.   Grin

A guy I work with part time,  has his full time job working alongside my Uncle Albert.  He says he takes 1 hour naps daily at his warehouse desk and gets away with it since is Union and should retire.  Am sure he is no longer earning his 25 dollar per hour pay and he should retire though.  Pretty sure he will later this summer though.

I retired in 1996, and haven't looked back.

I then had open heart surgery on April Fool's day of 1997.

Almost died from a botched up operation.

Finally got out of the hospital 29 days later.

Traded my Harley FLHTCU bike, for MGM, and really haven't looked back.   The Harley had 3 bottom ends put in, in just under 50,000 miles.

Money still coming in real good every month, so I'm setting easy for the time being.

I don't regret retiring when I did.

Had about 4 part-time shuttle driving for 4 different dealers.  Only worked partial days or x # of days a week.    The later part was the best, I was off on Monday and Friday's at the last dealer.   Wanted to go to a Rally, take off on Thursday afternoon to get there and have till Tuesday morning to make it back.

Congratulations on the big six-oh. I get to join that club in March of next year. Retirement, not so much. My sending off party will happen while someone is shoveling dirt on me. But now, at least I can pick and choose the jobs and hours I do work.

I guess you could take the liberal approach and stick your hand out or in someone else's pocket Undecided
In all seriousness he said he could retire to me that means having enough to sustain yourself until you die. If not he really can't retire.

So if you retire now, then you can ride over to Rockland Bakery for breakfast,
stop by Stan's to help him find all the pieces of his Valkyrie,
drink a beer or an iced tea and still come home early enough to take a nap
wake up and detail the bike all before Judy gets home from work

WTF do you have to think about?   laugh

Congrats, Robin.  Turning sixty is so much better than the alternative.   Wink

I'll be retiring 31 May (I'm a little over four years your senior.) and starting work for another company 1 June.  Life is good, isn't it?   cooldude
