Out with the old...in with the wooohoooo!!!!

Ottawa, Ontario

« on: March 30, 2015, 06:58:02 PM »

I put my valk of 12 years up for sale.  Now that my wife has her own bike, I decided that I just don't need a bike that big anymore.  I haven't decided on whether I will get the new valk or the CTX1300.  I am kinda leaning towards the CTX because it already has the bags and some other options I would want.  With the new valk I would definitely need a new seat and some good saddle bags.  But, who knows how long it will take to sell mine. I have to wait until it is sold before I buy my new one.  If it doesn't sell then I will continue to ride it.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Before buying a CTX I would take a test ride on a large engined scooter.

I think you will be surprisd at how quick they are and how well they handle.

Just my 2 cents. And you'd save a few $$$

CTX 83 hp and 724 pounds

650 Burgman 54 hp and 593 pounds.

Ya pays yer money and ya makes yer choice.   cooldude

I would make darn sure your wife who now has her own bike is going to ride it and not just let it sit and wants to ride longer distances with or without you BEFORE selling your 2-up Valk I/S.

It maybe just a whim lasting 1 year or less and maybe next year she will want to give up riding her own bike?  Better make pretty sure since you know what you have now or better yet, SUPERValk that beast taking off the rear trunk and going solo seat.  I think a Valk I/S with no trunk on top and a 1-up solo seat looks sharp and unique, one of a kind almost.

Those burgman scoots NEW are pricey as well, especially since there are tons of them out there used to pick from just have to keep looking for one used.  I do like the looks of the CTX1300 though saw one at dealer and was comfier for sure than the new stripped down Valk they have out now.

If I was going solo,  a used late 1990's, early 2000's Honda Magna would be at the top of my list to purchase for 3 grand or so.

My wife has been riding her Spyder for the last 3 years and it doesn't look like she will give it up any time soon.  She loves riding that thing and prefers that to riding on the back with me.  I also want something newer.  The CTX and the new valk are the only bikes out there that I have any liking for.  Although, the extras for the CTX are a hell of a lot cheaper than the new valk.  A windsheild for the new valk is $340 where as the CTX is $112.

Hey ...

Just a thought.....  Save some money, do the trunk mod and Supervalk it.... get a standard driver seat new for $90..... Or even just use the IS seat.  You would need the tail light , but they are around..

Can be done in a day once you have the parts.

Losing the trunk makes it seem like a new bike..... For a lot lees than a new bike overall!

If it doesn't do it for ya, you've mainly just spent some time..... But added value

Well, I sold the valk.  The guy gave me a deposit and he is coming back next Friday to pick it up.  He lives on the other side of Toronto, which is about 4.5hrs away.  He has always wanted one and when he saw mine come up for sale he jumped on it.

Looks like I will be staying on a Valkyrie.  I went to my local dealer on Thursday night and they have a black 2014 ABS model that they will sell to me for cost plus $500.  I am just waiting to see what the rebate from Honda will be on it.  I have already picked out a Corbin seat, Memphis Hellcat windshield, handlebar risers and highway pegs for it.  I am just waiting on the deal to be finalized before I buy anything.  If that deal falls through then another dealer has a blue one that is a demo.
I looked at the CTX1300 and upon closer inspection I was not impressed.  The bags on it are so cheap it is ridiculous.  Plus the seating on it was not the greatest.  It didn't give me any excitement.
Only thing I don't under stand is why Honda put all the blacked out stuff on the blue valks and put chrome on the black and red valks.  That chrome gas tank cover will have to be changed or I can see myself getting blinded by the sun.

congrats on sale.  If I was looking for never carrying a passenger 1-up riding, it would be the new Valkyrie with better seat, saddlebags, and taller windshield for sure.  Since the Spyder has plenty of storage,  a nice set of saddlebags if they exist for the new Valk should be good enough for storage and can always buy a luggage bag sitting on the back seat strapped down for added storage if need be.

So, if you don't mind me asking, what (give or take) is the price sold to you for the new VAlk, around 12-13 grand?

Seems like the more one waits, the price keeps dropping on the new Valk since not selling as well I don't think as the new F6B, which when I sat on them both at a dealer, the F6B fit me the best.

The prices up here in Canada are a lot higher than the US.  They want $16800 for the new valk at my dealer.  I saw some in the US for $12600 US but by the time I figure in the exchange rate and having to go pick it up or shipping it the price came to about $16000 Canadian and I would have to go back to the US for warranty work if it ever needed it.  For that little of a difference it is not worth it for me to do that.
The nice thing about the new valk is that the after market stuff for the wing seems to fit on it so the prices are more reasonable than our original valks were.

I checked them out.  They don't have anything on their website.  I remember them having valks for that price earlier but they must have sold out.

And I am the lucky purchaser.  I can't wait to pick up the bike this week.  I am really excited to move up from the shadow ACE Tourer.
Thanks Brian.
