Bob Burns, the original drummer and a founding member of the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, died in a car crash in Georgia. He was 64.

According to the Associated Press, Burns’ vehicle veered off-road near Cartersville just before midnight on Friday, striking a mailbox and a tree.

He was not wearing a seatbelt and was the only person in the car during the single-vehicle accident, which is still under investigation.

I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you
I might not give the answer that you want me to

WIKIPEDIA updated already.

Burns helped to form Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1964 with Gary Rossington and Larry Junstrom and remained until 1974, although by some accounts he left the band for a while during the early 1970s. Burns plays on the band's earliest demos, recorded in 1970, but on the album Skynyrd's First and... Last, a collection of early demos, the drum parts of the songs recorded in 1971 are played by Rickey Medlocke. That album also contains songs recorded in 1972 which feature Burns on drums, suggesting that Burns may have left the band in 1971 and had returned by 1972. During a brief period in the early 1970s, Rickey Medlocke occasionally played alongside Burns on drums for live shows, a two-drummer line-up similar to The Allman Brothers Band.

In addition to Skynyrd's First And... Last, Burns also played on the band's first two official albums: (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) and Second Helping. Burns left in 1974 due to being overwhelmed by life on the road, and was replaced by Artimus Pyle. In 1996, he participated in a performance to promote Freebird: The Movie. On March 13, 2006, he rejoined Lynyrd Skynyrd for one performance as he played alongside Gary Rossington, Billy Powell, Ed King, Artimus Pyle and the Honkettes at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.

Burns died in a car crash in Georgia late at night after a performance on April 3, 2015

Good band. Too bad.

I remember when Paul Welsh was the only surviver of the plane crash.

Didn't have a seat belt on ? Too bad. It'll be interesting to read the final report to see if it would have helped or not or why the airbags didn't help if equipped.

Don't remember the plane crash in '77 when 3 members were killed.

Main article: 1977 Convair CV-300 crash
. . . . . .  After running out of fuel they attempted an emergency landing before crashing in a heavily forested area five miles northeast of Gillsburg, Mississippi.[14][15] Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary, and co-pilot William Gray were killed on impact; the other band members (Collins, Rossington, Wilkeson, Powell, Pyle, and Hawkins), tour manager Ron Eckerman,[16] and road crew suffered serious injuries.

Paul Welsh was a sound engineer.

One of the best southern rock bands ever. They have had buzzard luck for years. I believe Leon Wilkenson was the last to pass? (bass player) Or, was it Billy Powel? (keys) Still, great band.

Is Gary Rossington the only original surviving member left? I know his sister is a backup singer (Gail Rossington) but was she in the original band?  CRS I guess.
