but the dog still loves people

great video

March 28, 2011
A Newark woman has been charged with four counts of animal cruelty in the case of a 1-year-old pit bull found starved and barely alive inside an apartment building garbage chute, New Jersey officials tell FoxNews.com.

Kisha Curtis, 28, was charged Friday with two counts of abandonment and two counts of failure to provide proper sustenance to the animal, according to Matthew Stanton, a spokesman for the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

The pit bull, hailed by animal care workers as a "miracle dog," was discovered March 16 by maintenance workers inside a garbage chute at the Garden Spires apartment building -- a 550-unit complex in Newark notorious for drug trade and other crimes.

The dog was found so brutalized that his bones protruded from his fur and he had no body temperature. Animal care workers with the Associated Humane Societies/Popcorn Park called it one of the worst cases of cruelty they've ever seen.

Newark Animal Control rushed the dog to the 24-hour Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, N.J., where he was given a blood transfusion, pumped with fluids and covered with heating blankets.

The dog was later named "Patrick" because he made it through the night and into St. Patrick's Day. Veterinarians said he would have died within 6 to 12 hours if he hadn't received medical care.

"It was a rebirth," said Karen Powell, an AHS spokeswoman.

Stanton told FoxNews.com that Curtis, the alleged owner, faces two criminal counts and two civil counts, which he said could result in up to six months in jail or a $1,000 fine and community service if convicted.

"It all depends on the judge," he said. "She [Curtis] caused the animal to be in that condition. She indicated that she couldn't take care of him anymore."

Stanton said the woman denied throwing the dog into the chute at the 22-story apartment building. Curtis could not be reached for comment when contacted Saturday by FoxNews.com.

Stanton added that the investigation into the crime is ongoing. He said the NJSPCA is working to determine whether anyone else was involved in the abuse and disposal of the animal.

Patrick, meanwhile, is making a slow but steady recovery at the animal hospital. Veterinary staff said the dog is now standing and eating small amounts of food several times a day.

"He loves people," Powell said.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on the crime to call the NJSPCA tip line at 1-800-582-5979.

http://www.fox46charlotte.com/story/25014741/pit-bull-shot-in-face-survives-surgery

In a message on Facebook, officials at the Stafford Veterinary Hospital that Boss the pit bull underwent successful surgery Tuesday to remove the bullet from his neck, repair a torn cruciate ligament and be neutered.

The post read: "Boss woke up to the attentive nursing care of Candace and Antoinette. It did not take long for Boss to kick off his covers and display his new cast when no one was looking. We will spend the next couple of days keeping him comfortable through pain management."

In a previous surgery, some teeth had to be removed and his tongue was repaired.

In addition to hospital donations, an online fundraising campaign has raised more than $5,000.

An office manager at the hospital says the response has been so overwhelming that donations are no longer needed.

Boss was found March 7, limping and bleeding from a gunshot wound to the face while wandering in traffic on Route 9 in New Gretna in Burlington County.

The couple that found him say they hope to adopt him.

Prosecutors are investigating the shooting.

how about this human animal?   the article says pitbull but turns out the dog is not
http://www.dogheirs.com/tamara/posts/3025-abused-pit-bull-dragged-behind-car-and-found-in-dumpster-fighting-for-his-life

Freckles appears to have been dragged behind a vehicle for a long distance and then left for dead. He was dragged long enough for his flesh to be peeled to the bone and one of his legs so badly damaged it will have to be amputated. If that was not trauma enough, Freckles was also severely malnourished, weighing half his normal body weight, and had been fed metal objects and coins.

"The pictures are so horrific and cruel that words alone are not enough. Outrage is not enough. Crying is not enough," Jennifer wrote. Despite the horrors Freckles endured, the little dog has a spark of life in him. And as long as he is fighting, Jennifer said, her rescue will do what they can for him.

FRECKLES is doing wonderful.  He is finally getting over his MRSA infection that came back on his leg.  We thought we were going to have to cut the area out but the antibiotics finally stated to do their job and the area is now going away.  Our sweet boy now weighs 70 lbs. and still has a ways to go.  We are beginning to think he is a Dalmatian / Great Dane Mix based on the size of his head and his paws.  Our Little Land Shark is finally making lots of headway in the trust department.  Given time, he is learning to trust people that we introduce him to.  He is still in training and will be until he has been placed in a loving home.  His carpal area we think is getting stronger.  It is going to take a long time for this to correct itself because of how weak and emaciated he was when we got him.  He will need to be placed in a home where there is a strong confident handler that he trusts to love and protect him.  He loves to play with all animals but cannot be placed with small animals because he plays far too rough and likes to chase them.  It is not a fair chase since his legs are unbelievably long.  He gallops right past and over them.  The worst is over for  our dear Freckles.  It is now just a matter of getting rid of his final infection, staying on top of his training and weening him off all of his meds that have supported his immune system while he heals.  Thanks for all the love and support you have shown sweet Freckles.  He will soon move into the next stage of his Journey which will be a new home.

The abuse we, as humans, are capable of is horrendous. And the unconditional forgiveness of those abused is nothing short of miraculous.

Fortunately we see, little by little, a turning tide. The FBI is now classifying animal abuse as a Class 1 felony. Companion animals are now being considered as something more than "property" by courts all over the country. Breed Specific Legislation is being challenged forcefully wherever it exists.

We still see, however, the fomenting of pure hatred towards dogs simply because of their breed. And that hatred is evident from the posts by individuals in previous threads. You are responsible and complicit in creating an atmosphere that leads to the very abuse we see in the videos above. And don't try and excuse yourselves away from it with some feeble attempt using apologetic words or trying the qualify your statements.

The good news is....for every one of you there are thousands that are educated enough to see past your blind hatred.

And more that's sure to irritate the haters out there....and also clearly show how little they really think they know.

How many children have died from abuse since your last post? Just trying to add a little perspective neither one is ok. One is more important in my opinion.

Do you not consider it child abuse when adults openly subject their small children to a wild animal that ends up scarring, maiming, or KILLING them?   Geez......child abuse doesn't get much worse than that.   Look at the beautifull small children on the website I've posted in the past......their parents willingly and openly put those children in that situation that ended up costing them their lives.  We are talking about pitt bulls that were the family dog....never hurt anyone.

I most certainly do!  I'm not a fan of pit bulls at all. Maybe I misunderstood you. I thought all this hype e was about dog abuse and was just inserting the fact that lots of children are abused every day and I find that more important of a problem than dog abuse.
