OK, be honest, who plays with their GPS while in motion

Had  a close call resetting my gps, when I looked up a car had pulled out of a drive way 30 feet in front of me. I locked up the rear wheel and some how was able to get around him. now I'M alot more careful, but still do it , and know its risky..

I do, but I'm VERY conscious of my surroundings, even more so then normal, and keep in mind that riding takes precedence... Also give myself at most 1-2 seconds (More or less depending on circumstances) on the GPS until I look back around me, instead of concentrating on what I'm doing with the GPS...

My spousal unit thinks I'm crazy for it, but I made a point of taking the GPS with me EVERYWHERE after I got it, even when someone else was driving, so I could get the interface down to muscle memory...

I've always fiddled with my Garmin 450 while cruisen. Did with earlier models too. That said, the risk is there and heightened when you're taking your eyes off the road.
I also take many pictures and vids too. Mounts include helmet, handlebars, Tourer bag rail mount, and free hand. Sometimes all at the same time. When I'm doing these tasks, I'm "up on the wheel" as I can be, but even being super-focused it's a risky deal at all times. Words of warning: be VERY careful!

Yep Im guilty also.  After a close call I move my streetpilot to the the right side of me so that now I have to reach across. This makes me pull off the road if I need to look of something. A little inconveniences but it alot safer

I mess with my zumo 550 as well but I learned the buttons and sequence of what buttons do what way before I got on the bike.  I know that if I hit a certain buttun three times it will take me to my mp3 player screen or it if hit the bottom right of the screen it will repeat my next turn and will show me a quick picture of what the approach will be like.  This was very useful on my last trip in major cities of St.Louis, Dallas, and San Antonio.  There were times that you would need to exit on the right or left and you didn't have much time to get there and being in those cities at rush hour made a world of difference.  If I am on the super slab then I only tinker around when no other vehicles are with me and if I am w/ other riders I never touch it while riding in town or in tight formation on the interstate.  Just not worth hurting your buddies by running into them or a cager in front.  If we are spread out a bit I might change the song or something but thats about it.

I've followed too many GPS equipped riders who suddenly slow down for no reason cause they are fiddlin with the GPS.

I've followed too many GPS equipped riders who suddenly turn left or right because the GPS told them to WHEN THERE ARE ROADSIGNS showing the way.

I've followed too many GPS equipped riders who suddenly weave, swerve on the road because they are fiddlin witht eh GPS.

I've not followed GPS equipped riders who have aimed their bike at a NO ENTRY sign because the GPS told them that was the way to go.

As any other visual gadget it's best to pull over and use it. I'm sure some terminal accidents could be attributed to GPS tunnel vision.

Maybe its just me but how do you keep your map flat while trying to read it and your compass while riding???

Compass? That's the RV'er's version of the plastic Jesus.  Maps and roadsigns don't always tell you what you need to know so we also use convenience store clerks and firefighters.

  Yeah, but they are also the ones that know how to get around construction and where the other half of your road is.

i can safely say that i never mess with the gps on my bike

My GPS has a setting in it that DOES NOT ALLOW, changes while in motion.

It can be shut off, however I figure with it set on, it will keep my firkin fingers from messing with it,

If I need to change it, pull over & stop, give the GPS my undivided attention & pull back into traffic with the change made.     Mucho safer.....
