Besides music videos and secretary beach scouting I just repaired my dishwasher again Is it a woman thing that the wife just throws chicken bones, pits, seeds, glass down that there dishwasher without rinsing the dishes ? I suppose so. To her credit when the thing started the low buzzing noise she said "Honey I think you have to take the dishwasher apart again I think the sump motor is jammed" Now if only she would at least clean the large bones off the plates before stickin em in that dishwasher This time it took less than hour and no blood was shed

Solution: wash dishes by hand, cheaper and does a better job. Or, just make the misses do the dishes by hand, even better yet! I maybe old school, but I never believed in spending good money on a dishwashing machine, always do them by hand for the rest of my life am sure. My neighbor now in 9 years in his newer house has gone thru 2 very nice and expensive dishwashers, no thanks.

I must of got a lemon on my Bosch. 9 months old and have had 3 service trips on it. Last repairman told me in 3 months from his call if their is another service call it will be replaced FREE of charge. Personally, I'll take my old Maytag. It was 15 years old when it had it's 1st failure. I screwed up and let the other 1/2 read that firkin Consumers Report magazine on dishwashers.

Back to the topic of the title:
I agree, a lot to be found on utube!!
I also have repaired things by researching them up on utube, so far everything I looked up to fix has a utube video. (refrigerator, weed eaters, automotive, etc...) Very good for finding "tricks to the trade" procedures along with personal "tricks" normal people come up with. Just yesterday, among other things, I looked up how a mower "Hydrostatic transaxle" works, quite interesting!
As far as your wife and the chicken bones, etc... that would be an issue with me if it happened frequently.

I raleigh on the old adage; "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself". I've been loading the dishwasher for many years and the only repair was to replace the door latch...

By the time you "prepare" the dishes for the dishwasher how much extra water have you used? Evan-is there some way to mount a screen over the drain that will catch the larger stuff Before it goes into the pump and screws things up? Or the next time it messes up have Bonnie assist in the cleanout? Had a S I L that burned up a clothes dryer heater element from not cleaning lint filter. Guided her thru the heater element replacement and she knew how to clean lint filter after that. RIDE SAFE.

As a kid I was mom's dishwasher among other chores required to earn my 10 cents/week allowance. When my kids were very young I passed those chores on to them starting at $1/week that grew as they aged. When they all moved out it became my job again she cooks I clean up after except now I rinse and load.

Only thing I ever used a dishwasher for was to store big pots, pans and cookie sheets. Only was two of us; then one of me. My current home, it was a portable and took up kitchen space, so I removed the nice butcher block top and toted it over to a big dumpster for night time deposit. Never saw any utility in saving up dirty dishes for days on end, to get enough to run a cycle. My average meal, maybe I have two minutes of dish washing, by hand. I'm a decent cook, but don't do much dirtying up the kitchen anymore; my bachelor style is high speed short order cook. One or twice a month, it might take me five minutes to hand wash.
Now if you have a family, it's a different story.

My dishwasher has spider webs in it Speaking of spiderwebs, I took a close look in two back corners of my basement living room the other day, and each had a tiny malnourished spider/web. I suppose it's time for a little more exuberant spring cleaning.

My wife made me quit putting my teeth in our dishwasher. Said it bothered the guests. My sister, known as "over reaction central" just about had a stroke when she saw it. Took me nearly an hour to convince her they were "false" false teeth....the kind you wind up and they sit there and clatter open/shut as they bounce across the table. I did have some of the grandkids think I put a false eyeball in there for cleaning along with the dishes. With a group of kids standing around, I asked my wife if she was going to run it which she was, so I said to wait 'cuz I had to clean/polish my eye. Then went through a big deal about popping out a false eyeball, closed my eye, then dropped a marble into one of the cups. Slammed the door shut and let it go. It was very quiet for a looong time afterward. About halfway through the wash, I opened the door and made like I was taking it out and inspecting it. Then went through a big deal of popping it back in then danced around a bit because it was supposedly still hot. They're all in their 20's now, but all remember the day grandpa cleaned his eye in the dishwasher. My wife said I'm responsible for helping raise damaged children.

Great story John, kind of like my uncle with the fake finger sticking it in his ear anyways Just use a Doobie sponge wipe plate off put in dishwasher Usually I load the thing and empty it but when Bonnie has a class in the house or is cooking a big meal for family she may do it. I cant imagine why someone would pre clean with water any plate or pot with this dishwasher, just wife off the big stuff into the garbage and load the dishwasher Its a really quiet KitchenAid and does an outstanding job on glasses, pots and plates Its almost as bullet proof as a Valkyrie.....

Youtube helped me a lot when I was building the chopper. Taught me how to pull apart and assemble the front forks, triple tree, and steering head. Saw how to remove the carbs for re-jetting, but on those 1100 shadow's, it's a real pain in the ass to remove the carbs.

Getting back on topic, I've used YouTube for lots of stuff including the ball joints on my Dodge Dually and power antenna on my Maxima. It's like, if you need to do something, look it up on YouTube cause probably someones done a vid on it.
