Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

We do a lot of work for a guy that has 2 Bentleys. His newest one is a convertible V-12. Sounds awesome.

Was thinking...."that thing is just begging for a pair of V8s linked together under the hood"
Until I saw the engine. Gorgeous!

From a time when automobiles had character, not like the cookie cutter cars of today.  It started downhill with the 1949 Ford.  No fenders or running boards.  I remember when the first one was displayed in the Ford dealership in a small town in East Texas.  Was in December in 1948 on a Saturday night, we went to town for the movie, and after walked down to the Ford place for a look.  Thought it was the ugliest thing I had ever seen.   Went on a few years later to hotrod a few 50 Fords with that great flathead V8, favorite was a convertible.  Anyhoo that thing is a beautiful piece of art.

When we lived in England and my dad was a Captain in the USAF, stationed at Upper Heyford outside Woodstock in the mid 70's one of the other officers on base had a hobby of buying junked 1930's and early 40's Bentleys and Rolls Royces, doing meticulous restorations of them, and then selling them to other officers for just the price of the materials he'd used to do it.

My dad came >< this close to buying one before he rotated back to the states... I so wish he had, woulda been fun driving that around as my first car...

C'est la vie, hindsight is 20/20, etc etc. etc...

(There's also the story of my dad buying a 427 Cobra brand new, driving it for a few days and then deciding it wasn't practical so he hired a lawyer and forced the dealership to take the car back... *Sigh*)

I worked at a shop in the early 80's. A guy dropped of a 58 Bentley Saloon. Then fell off the face of the earth.
I got it after a mechanic's lien and a couple weeks free labor.
I painted it deep maroon and grey interior. It took alot of work and some real folding cash to get back on the road. Then the owner of the shop got squirrley and I left after threats and volume.
What a magnet. If I let a gal drive that car, she wanted to get married and the whole 9 yards. Fantastic running driving car. Finally got offered stupid money for it and "Jeeves" was a memory.
