Terrible event.

However the media seem to be making a mountain out of a molehill.

Town has a population of 150.

I say again it's a terrible thing to have happened.

?

They have "ONLY" 150 people, so let's ignore all the damage, and the dead person?  How big does a town have to be before it rates coverage?

Can you tell I come from a small town, although I live on a farm out in the country, of "only" 300.  Smiley

I knew some one would misconstrue my comment. Which is why I stressed it's a terrible thing to have happened.

Oh well.

I would imagine for those 150 people that "molehill" seemed as tall as Mt. Everest Shocked

Spectacular footage by Storm Chasers.

18 wheeler over on it's side.

I would hate to think a family member or me, were in that tumult.

Yes Bad News makes the Best Ratings, and they blow it up for monetary reasons.

I call it Dancing IN the blood of the victims.

Britman has the nail and hit it too.

I took it as that it is only a small event, "molehill", only 150 people.

And that the media should not be talking so much about it.  "making a mountain"

How else should I construe it?

I must be missing what you really meant.

I see it all the time from the other side.

Say there is a BIG blizzard out here on the northern plains prairies.  Snow piled up 6-8 feet high, no travel for days.  It will get mentioned a few times for a moment, maybe.

A city like Atlanta or NY get a few inches, and it is 24/7 coverage!  Just because they are "big".

Thx.  MP

Rochelle, near Fairdale was also effected, the Fairdale touchdown, killed a 67 year old woman.

So who gets the coverage, Fairdale, they had a death.

It makes for the destructive news of death.

As the Eagles sang about DIRTY LAUNDRY, the News Woman talks about the deaths

with a Gleam in her Eye.

Not sure exactly where Fairdale is but I travel through Rochelle a lot on the way to Wisconsin. It's about 48 miles from where I live and is right off of Route 39, about 17 miles west of DeKalb, home of NIU.

I'm just glad the damage and lives lost weren't any worse. That was a pretty massive tornado!

Chromedome lives in Aurora, IL...I believe, which is 6 miles from me. He'd also be 45 or so miles from Rochelle.

I KNOW one thing about tornados-they do NOT give a crap who you are or where you live. They ARE with out a doubt equal opportunity death and destruction.  Evil AND when they do hit-they are NEWS-no matter where they land. BUT on the other hand I have wanted more than once for reporters to stick to the story at hand-NOT make idle chatter to fill I air time.  uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE.

I think only 2 people got killed in this one, but 2 too many, so sad.   Cry

Could have been a lot more deaths in heavily populated areas, but still doesn't make it anymore better.   Cry

Just a couple hours at most NW of us could have hit us.  We got some terrential downpours out of this one is all so guess count our lucky stars.   Cry

Pretty amazing videos taken on youtube on this one.  Still remember the Barneveld WI tornado I think was in 1984. if not mistaken, was horrid with the entire small town of almost 1,000 leveled only about 40 minutes north of me.  Almost 1 year later went to see the rebuild and was still in shambles, no trees and not many houses still standing.  Only visiting such destruction in person can one truly feel such devastation.   Cry

Had it taken a slightly different path, it could have gone through Dekalb with a population of 44,000. And that doesn't include the 21,000 plus at NIU. So it could have been much more deadly. Thankfully, it didn't take this route.

Russ my friend those things can ALWAYS get uglier no matter how much death and destruction they have already meted out prior to their arrival to do what they do-death and destruction. Wasn't all that long ago here that a twister took out the big antenna at the Highway Patrol barracks about a mile from my house and about a mile and a half north of me some approx. 100-125 year old oak trees were destroyed-BUT not ONE life was lost. High dollar property damages but no lives lost-I can live with that. RIDE SAFE.
