Trivago motel booking?

My wife and I are on our way to meet with Atticrat and old2soon. We booked a room at Baymont Inn in Marshfield Missouri. We get here and can not find the hotel. We ask and no luck. I called trivago and argued with a computer as there was no choice to talk to a real person. Finally got thru and asked for a local phone number. As soon as I saw the area code, I knew it was Marshfield Wi. I called the number , and we were registered there instead of Missouri. The lady was as helpful as she could be , but could not cancel our reservation. Called back trivago and they said they could not refund our money without calling the other hotel . You (trivago) screwed up , not us. We will stop payment on our card. We did get an E-mail confirming a credit. We are at Holiday Inn Express for less money. The lady at the front desk said we were not the first. We did online booking and it was for Marshfield Missouri. There is no Baymont in this town.

Wow sorry about your ordeal.
I have used them, but mostly orbitz, to look up hotels in the area. Once I find one I look it up online and see the location then I call them personally and see about rates and availability. Sometimes they are 20 miles from where I wanna be.

Yea, BF, my wife said the same thing. However, I don't give him 2 seconds thought.

Enough so in my case that I decided that if that is how they want to be represented it wasn't me they were trying to reach.
I won't use them.

I never have tried to use any booking service. My normal method is to Google Earth where I am going and choose the hotel by location and surroundings, then just call and make my best deal. Some give a "Hog" discount which is technically for Harley owners that have a card, but I learned on accident that most motels that give this discount give it freely to all riders if they show up on a motorcycle, other discounts are military or AARP and that one too I have found they dont even try to determine your age or ask for an AARP card. I have also tried the one where if you show up after 4pm you can get them to give you a big discount for the first day at least....that one rarely works

Happened to my son once. Got booked in the wrong town.
I have had them TRY to book me in the wrong town, but I caught the problem before booking.
Usually happens in a small town, with either no motel, or only a couple. The sites automatically redirect you to another town.
These were with different bookers, not Trivago.

big screwup on Trivago's part, but hope it all got taken care of finally.
I'd be asking for the hastle if Trivago has any discounts on a future hotel stay for their error.
I have asked booking my own hotel stays by calling the front desk clerk at the hotel if they can give me the AARP or other discount, even if I do not qualify. 50/50 chance they will do it even if only 10% off is still about 10 bucks or so (gas money to me). Most front desk clerks don't care since not their money.
