Hydraulic Clutch has been an option for at least 30 years. Not new.

My Electriglide has a cable system, which with the easy clutch option(2007&up,standard) is

smoother

than silk.

This recall was started last year, I think someone dropped the ball big time.

I would not trust a simple rebuild kit, what caused it to fail the 1st time?

Last year they were claiming supplier, had presented them hardware that had casting flaws.

I would ask for a the cable option, instead.

Who's happy about it?  The yee-haw was supposed to be the sound hollered when the clutch stuck!  Seriously, I don't want anyone getting hurt out there.  And I don't have a problem with Harleys.

For being such loyal supporters of japanese products, you guys sure pay a lot of attention to Harley-Davidson motorcycles.

That could happen to any motorcycle that has an hydraulic clutch and the clutch disengaged limit switch up on the master cylinder or clutch lever.  Guess what, we have that setup on our Valks.  The issue is, how did gas (air) get into the system while the bike was just sitting?  I believe there are Gremlins involved, going around with wrenches, loosening things and causing leaks and parts to fall off...

#1.  The Valkyrie has a higher content of US product and labor than the HD.
#2.  It was made in Ohio, USA, not Japan.
#3.  When I had my HD, before the Valkyries, I frequented HD forums.  The amount of "Jap bashing" that goes on there makes what we say pitiful!

All motorcycles companies have recalls. When the new 1800 GW came out, the frame could break.  It was recalled.  HD was honest, just like Honda, and issues the recall.  Any RIDER would not be overjoyed to hear of a defect that could get a rider killed, no matter the company.

Although I'm not a fan of HD, I wouldn't own one, it's not for me.   My problem was with the riders, not the company.  Whatever brand, just ride safely.

yah, even the mightly goldwing, HOnda's flagship had frames cracking/breaking in a major recall.

I for one would not buy a HD,  too expensive for what you get, unless you get a steal of a deal on one, but not likely to happen.  I also don't like the shake, rattle, and roll concept in anything besides my 250cc scooter which slightly vibrates the hand grips only at idle, just like a HD, with about the same amount of hp (just kiddin=20 hp per my 1 cylinder vs. over 40 hp for 2 cylinders in a HD)  Grin
Give the bike a tad bit of throttle, and the vibrating handgrips goes away, just like a HD as well.  Grin

A guy locally down my street wanted on craigslist just recently for his 1999 HD electra glide 7500 bucks with lower miles around 30K, NO thanks.  That is about what my 2001 Valk I/S is worth with about same amount of miles and about same age.   What would you choose?   coolsmiley

I could care less about the HD mystique of riding a HD, since never fit into that group locally and never will.  Most around me wouldn't be caught dead on anything 'supposedly' less than a HD.

I MUCH prefer my Valks to the 100th Anniversary HD Heritage Softail I had.  However, they are putting out a quality product, that does NOT leak oil.  And, if you do not hot rod it, the drivetrain will last a long time.

Since a lot of HD riders swap bikes every few years, there are a LOT of good, used HD's out there.  Prices are dropping because of that.

If, in the future, I have to replace my Valks, I cannot think of another bike than HD that would give me the look of a Valk.  There are a couple others, but I do not like them as much.  Maybe, over time, the new Indian might get there?

Honda certainly has given up on the "classic" MC look.

I for one would like to be informed of ANY mechanical issue that might cause myself or others harm if continued usage of t is NOT repaired. AND the only way these issues come to light is use by the general public and then reporting the problem back o the manufacturer or the dealer. I have no idea at all what the threshold number of reports are for any given issue to get a recall. Some manufacturers are reluctant (think Toyota here) to issue a recall but if it can be quickly determined the "why" of an issue I'm for the sooner the better-preferably-BEFORE anyone gets injured or worse yet-dies. Some riders attitudes are there NO matter what they ride-I DO NOT waste time on those "attitude" types. I'd rather be in the wind.  cooldude Don't care HOW ya got in da wind-long as you IS in da wind!  coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.
