Yep we all agree.  But, they are effective for cars.  They are cheaper than concrete or steel.  Look for more of them.

You think they give a Rats Petuti about MC riders?  Think again.

Every time I go by one, I think about the cheese slicers with the wire that does the cutting.  I then think of me as cheese.

  They may be cheaper...These barriers produce more damage than the old system. Where a vehicle would have just normally slide into the medium without damage (especially during the winter) they now hit these wire barriers and are damaged. They also create more roll overs / injury than any other retention system.
Ya they stop vechicles from roaming into the opposite side of the xway somewhat, but they now roll there instead of just go there. At 80 MPH+ its hard to stop anything. You ought to hear the highway dept workers bitch when they have to fix em.

Another oopps I didn't see him. He was forced into the cables by a small truck that changed lanes without seeing the motorcycle.

Paying attention is a full time job on a motorcycle, it seem that people get messed up or hurt, is when they get to over confident on a motorcycle. If you want to stay healthy on a bike, you can't assume anything. That is the nature of the ride!!

I have E-mailed the A M A and MoDot. MoDot is the Missouri Dept of Transportation. The A M A is "looking into it". Their words-NOT mine. MoDot on the other hand sent a long reply that was couched in in non speak. Nuther words-political B S. I saw those cursed things going in while I was still driving 18 wheeler and I KNEW then that I would NOT want to even go into those cheese graters in an 18 wheeler. The last time this came up someone stated these cheese graters are being removed somewhere in Europe. And It's NOT JUST the cables-look at the posts/I-beams supporting the cables. M/C riders usually depart the machine in a wreck. You depart wrong and airborne and land on a post want to take a guess at what your chances are for survival? The states where these silent killers are being installed/used-was anybody in that state asked what their thoughts were prior to installation? I KNOW they NEVER asked me here in Missouri!  As a side note the rae tracks I frequented had exposed posts-the tops of them for containing the race cars to the track in an accident-til somebody became paralyzed after landing upside down on a post. They were gone-exposed posts-within 2 weeks of that driver getting paralyzed. How many folks are going to die BEFORE he people in charge of these killers realize the EFFED UP big time?? BE paranoid out there cause WE KNOW they are trying to eliminate us! RDE SAFE.

Does any one have pics, of the cables or cheese graders you speak of.  I guess I am not understanding the big picture.

All the new sections of I-75 in S.W. Fl. have this type of barrier. I've thought these were a terrible solution to cutting cost for the DOT. I believe it's all budget driven.
When I lived in Upstate NY 40 years ago the standard guard rails were being replaced with the cable type. Even then we knew they were killers.
 When we started the Collier County Sand Drags in Fl. we bought used guard rail sections and ran them down the center of the track and along the outsides of the lanes. The cable was only used in the spectator fence which was 20' away from the guard rail. Never had a rail, truck or bike make it to the fence. Thankfully.
