Avon cobras went out (rear only) at around 10K leaking air (rear only), but probably going to just replace both as a set and do it all at once and be done with it.

Any sales anywhere right now?

So far, found Avon Cobra set at 312, Shinko SE890's set for 246, and Bridgestone Exedra G701/G702 at 289 per set, but those are bias ply.

I'm leaning towards the Shinko SE 890 not necessarily because they are the cheapest, but got good reviews as well and not too happy I have about 10 pinholes in the rear Avon Cobra only lasting around 10K miles since was expecting 13-15K tops out of it at always 44-46 psi was hoping to last this entire riding season, not so since not holding air more than 1 week without putting air in it since was near flat come April 1st when got it out after winter.

I doubt I will get less than 9K miles out of the Shinko's or any other cycle tire and as far as handling/traction, I am not a canyon carver scrapping pegs and try not to ride in the rain much, but do get on the cycle mostly in a straight line from time to time.

Don't know about the sales BUT I got over 16 G out of the Shinko S E 890 that I had on the front. Good in all the regimes I've run it in including the Dragon and Moonshine 28 last year on the way to Asheville. AND a couple hundred miles of rain after Asheville on the way to my brothers place North of the Windy City.  :Good luck with yer sale huntin!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

The road conditions where I live use that sharp pea gravel shavings for coating the roads.  I have picked those sharp as glass pebbles out of my car snow tires when I take them off after winter sticking into those having tons of rubber, but the new snow tire tread is a ton thicker to withstand the abuse, not so with cycle tires that are 3/4 shot.  I also took late last fall a few 'off the beaten path' rural rustic roads probably not so suited for a big touring bike which am sure had something to do with the rear tire going flat over this past winter.

I guess just enough rubber was worn off to get at least 10 pinhole punctures all around the rear Avon Cobra tire thru past the steel belted cords of the tire.  Most of the pinhole rubber punctures were of course on the left side just off center of the rear tire which makes sense due to the lean angle to right shoulder of most roads.

I would go darkside and get a car tire on back if only I drove 5K or more miles per year, makes sense since more rubber than any cycle tire and will last 2-3x's as long at near 1/2 the cost.

So far,  chaparrel racing and bike bandit have the best deals either Avon Cobras, Shinkos, or Bridgestone Exedras.  I was surprised online that Jake Wilson,  where I bought my last Avon Cobra set, does not even stock the Avon Cobras anymore, wonder why?  Know a few people who have used Avon Cobra's with poor long lasting wearing patterns.

I just missed the April 30th deadline for saving 50 dollar mail in rebate on a set of Dunlop elite III's for I would have gone that route I think since have heard the Dunlop Elite III's although some say not the best handling,  longevity was slightly better which is what I am looking for.  I think most cycle tires regardless of road conditions and riders riding technique should last 9-10K miles in the rear tire?  I being slightly less aggressive than most,  would have thought 13K or so vs. only around 10K out of these Avon Cobras.

That is what I am leaning towards.  Glad I checked motorcyclesuperstore best price on Shinko SE890's at 237 total for both while runner up same place is Bridgestone Exedra G701/G702 at 302 in price about same price 302-310 mark as Chapparellracing for the Avon Cobras that lasted me 10K miles.

I want to try something different since Avon Cobras have not impressed me much and although Shinko's may not quite last 10K (guessing 9K),  really no bad reviews for the most part.   Same as Bridgestone Exedra's maybe lasting 10K or so same as my Avon Cobras with no bad reviews to speak of.

My opinion only, but the overpriced Dunlop Elite III's and Metzeler ME880's pushing that 400 dollar range and more online is tied up into advertising expense since doubt either will last over 12-13K either.

I called up my local Honda dealer and they said good deals right now at 20% discount.  I just laughed thinking really?  Price was 450 for avon cobras, over 500 for dunlop elite III's, and over 600 for Metzelers.   What?? ???

I will call up 1-2 more somewhat local Honda dealers tomorrow morning, but doubt they will even come anywhere close.  Just have to find one willing to mount/balance online tires for 40-50 bucks each.

Update: front Avon cobra at 10k looks fine today, holding air and plenty of tread (1-2 more years of riding), so might go cheapest route Shinko SE890 rear tire for 125 bucks and see how it handles/lasts.  Might not be 10K more miles like the Avon Cobras, but should get 8-9K and the price is right at 125.  I'm not really into super great handling, but longevity, but a car tire on rear is probably not for me.

There is no sense in replacing a perfectly good front tire to match, agree?

Odd though,  I checked on Thursday rear tire psi was 42 psi, and today, Sunday, rear tire was still 42 psi so holding air now since warmer temps now?  2 weeks prior mid-April when in the 30's for lows at night, I pumped rear tire up to 46 psi and just almost 2 weeks later on thursday, psi was down to 33 psi (so about 1 psi loss per day before in near 2 weeks but colder out).  I doubt it, but maybe 46 psi is just enough inside pressure psi to allow air to escape the 10 pinholes not visible to human eye unless sprayed with soapy water and even then just barely noticeable.  Either way,  riding rear tire solo for now short 10-20 mile daily trips in next few weeks before I replace rear tire later in May and bringing air pump and gauge and check psi before every short ride for sure.

Sad though, still on 2nd tank of gas since out of storage since April 1st when I noticed the rear flat tire over the winter.  Leaning towards cheapest Shinko SE890 for 125 bucks in hopes it lasts 9K close to the Avon Cobras lasting 10K.   I'd go car tire on rear since I know it will last 25K miles vs. only 10K on a cycle tire if I rode more miles per year for sure.

The power and weight of the Valk must take a toll on cycle tires since my 250cc scooter still has original tires at 11500 miles but will replace soon due to aging.
