or at least that's how I felt on a short ride I took last Saturday......it may just be that it'd been a while since I had a chance to ride the Fat Girl, but there was a noise....maybe from the road surface?.....I don't know, but I didn't really feel any vibration/s in my foot pegs, but I'm worried that maybe the U-joint is starting to wear?...I've got 102.500 miles on her......BigBF changed my timing belts last june at about the 100,000 mark...(sad that I've only put 2,500 miles on her since then..some years I've had 12,000+..too much working these days..)...anyways, I'd feel better if I could check the U-joint out...but I hate to tear it all apart back there just to look at it....I just put a new back tire on a bout 1,500 miles ago...seems like if it starts to go,  it'll hopefully give me some warning without a catastrophic disintegration?....that could tear up some stuff in there.....I think my driveshaft and pinion cup may make it another tire change just fine....

HDL had one listed for $145ish....another site for $136ish...WTH??....I remember they used to be $65ish....... Shocked Shocked Angry......

Anyone know who might have the best price on a new U-joint?.......I'm thinking I need to go ahead and give her new spark plugs, change all the fluids in the brake/clutch/radiator.....now that she's just getting broken in......and if anyone wants to get me a late BD present, a new Driver's Ultimate LowBoy seat would be much appreciated........ cooldude

Oh yeah, I think it'd be wise to buy a new boot.....everything I've read said the old ones are PIA to get seated back properly?......

Stanley: I have a good used U joint and very soft boot. I say ride it till the noise gets worse. If it grenades in there, it won't damage anything else. The swingarm will have to be cleaned out to get rid of metal shavings. Not a big deal.

turn up the radio, that is what I do hearing the small whatever rattling around in my I/S fairing over bumps in the roads at town speeds.  Problem solved.  Just kidding.

Your turning into me only 2500-3000 miles per year on the bike.  I once road 5K miles in one year, that was a lot for me.  A job gets in the way doesn't it, darn job!  tickedoff

So, what does this sound sound like?

You might want to also check the wheel bearings.

Both time I had a funny noise - it was the single race bearing in the rear.

I bought a used U-Joint on Ebay for around $50 when I was home - just to throw in the saddlebag on LONG trips.

I'm guessing it wouldn't hurt to have a new one......and good to know.....I'd prefer to change it without it breaking all apart though

How could it be changed without removing the wheel, final drive and driveshaft?

I don't think it could be...what I meant by that is that I'd prefer to inspect and replace it at the next tire change instead of just taking it all apart for that.,,...it may be nothing at all......and if I remember right, I helped you change my wheel bearings out a few years ago.....I'd have to look at my maintenance log to know the mileage.....
