Got bitten by the woodworking bug about 2 months ago. Haven't done any woodwork since high school, but always enjoyed it. Wife decided she wanted a new kitchen table and after looking at the usual overpriced crap in the stores, I figured I would try my hand at building something. Table is 7'6"x3'6" and made from pine. Benches are made from recycled old barn wood.

After the table project I figured I should make some Mother's Day things, so I made 2 adirondack chairs with matching footstools from cedar. One for my wife and one for my mother.

Hope you enjoyed looking!
Thanks!

Nice items, really like the table and bench seats. Wood working is awesome and very rewarding, when your done. Being a Model Maker, one of the materials I worked with is wood, and loved working with it. But from my experience and opinion, wood working equipment, may be some of the most dangerous equipment of them all.  The thing about woodworking is it demands respect, no day dreaming when using it, its like riding a bike, but the results is awesome.

Real nice table and chairs  cooldude

These should have looked like toothpick explosions too, I made
them around 1992... The only tools I had were my father's old
aluminum bodied circular saw and my new Milwaukee sawsall.

I made the curved cuts with the sawsall  Wink

They were making adirondack chairs on Norm Abram's teevee show,
and I recorded it on the VCR. Then I rewatched it a few times and
made my plans from it...

Fun isn't it. I had to give up riding and now have a wood shop in my back garage and learning fast about wood shop machines, MUST be careful. I'm enjoying it as long as I can keep it neat. Sawdust and scrap wood tends to collect everywhere. I'm rebuilding a vintage small camping trailer which is keeping me very busy doing the complete inside. Sorry to say there is no more Valk, now it's Valk related.

My Model Shop Mentor always said to me. You are not an expert until you loose a finger. Well I am still an armature, I have all ten. But I do have a deep respect for the equipment. Oddly enough, early this morning I went to Lowes and bought some oak planks, I want to make some simple bird houses.

That's odd, I too am in process of building a table. We need a big table for when all the kids come so I like you, decided to make one! I have a mountain of old lumber from crates equipment came in.

Mine is an 8' table with extensions for both ends.

Heavy SOB not sure how I'm going to get it in the house.

I opted out on the benches, Fat guys and little kids on benches don't mix well. I found a pile of old oak restaurant chairs on Craigs List and Joanne is refinishing them.

I am in awe of you guys with skills.

Today I really pushed my limits and hammered a new rail into my split rail fence.... after breaking one with the lawnmower the ants had moved into.

Nice work JeffK!
I too was concerned about fat guys and benches also, which is why I went with the old Douglas fir barn wood, those SOBs are heavy!!

You want to be talented? Simple!!  Don't ever tell yourself you can't do it, give it a shot and don't quit on yourself, each time you get better.   Understand one simple thing, every flood starts with a drop of water.   Think about that, and apply it to yourself.

Hadn't messed with welding since the 8th grade....got a cheap HF wire welder a couple of years ago and made me a welding table for practice....

Just got done with my bird house, what a hack job!! Only had a 4" cut off saw and a Ryobi crap band saw, no excuse.   Bottom was slightly out of square. The worst part is after looking at it, after it was done. I made it out of Red Oak, what was I thinking, I just made The Old Ironsides of bird houses. Probably last longer then the house.  The thing is, at the back garage there is a security flood light, it has motion detection on it, so I had to evict some birds building a nest on it.  Either that or burn down the garage, point is I felt guilty and I built the bird house. I made furniture, but hacked a bird house, what bone head!!

I'm sad to say I haven't built anything since I did this rush job in early January, 2011.  I couldn't let my wife's father pay the high-profit cost of a casket for my wife's mother, when I had the capability to design and build something that would do a dignified job for far less.
