I love my Galaxy Note 4... Loved my Galaxy Note 2 before that, and my Galaxy S2 before that, and my Galaxy S before that... Notice a trend there?
But admittedly, that's a lot like asking "What's the best motorcycle out there?"
(However, I am NOT a fan of the Galaxy S6... Samsung is Apple'ing their phone up, making the battery non-replaceable and taking away the SD memory card slot.)

I realize it's tomato tamato, just looking for some hands on experience. Kinda gettin forced into the 21st century. Really like calling and actually talking to someone. Hate texting. But would be nice to keep on eye on the store from somewhere far away, say spearfish? Thanks for the help.

The question is, would your smart phone still operate if dropped in an oil bath, and what type of oil would you drop it into? Now we are back to a normal discussion...

Jess I think we're on the same plan. I was with VZW too until my contract expired- No more contracts and I love unlimited prepaid too! My phone preference in Motorola, they've been the clearest ones yet for me. The 4g LTE is fast too.

Yes, but experience showed me that LifeProof cases for iPhones are not "life proof", or at least not "run over by a car proof". S5 Active here. Hay Jimmyt

Kyocera Brigadier... so yes... yes it would still operate. IP68 and Class I Div 2 (Submersible to 6' for 30 minutes and explosion proof) I'm an oil-field geek. But to get back on topic... I've always been a fan of anything Android because they keep things standard (standard USB, standard file system, no need for special music software). It does suck that Google has a copy of all the info on there, but at least it ain't Apple.

" I am not a smart man" but I need a smart phone. The question is droid or galaxy?
Galaxy is a model line of a brand....Samsung. Droid is Android...it's the operating system. Apple's operating system is IOS (I think). Samsung is Android based. I despise Iphones or I anything from Apple, mostly because of all of their proprietary crap. Seems like every time they come out with a phone, even their charger plug changes. If the battery dies on you, you can't replace it....you send it back to Apple. Samsung uses a universal charger plug that works with most any other phone or any other device out there. Like Serk, I LOVE my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. It's more of a cross between a tablet and phone....and it's big....but you get real used to it real quick. It comes with a stylus (even Apple doesn't offer that) that allows you to write notes on your phone. You can talk to text, you can talk to take notes. It's my personal secretary and this phone helps me with my appointments and keeps me organized. I use the Google calendar app to keep track of everything....it's great. I LOVE my Note 4. If you can wait until about October, it's rumored that Samsung will be coming out with the Note 5. Supposed to be the same size screen, but much brighter.....but those are just rumors at this point. The Note 4 is the bad boy on the block and is the Cadillac of phones IMHO. If you have to have Apple, the I phone 6 plus is the closest competitor to the Note 4. The I phone 6 plus is a bigger phone than the Note 4, but the screen size is slightly smaller than the Note 4. It also felt a tad heavier than the Note to me. And, it doesn't have a stylus or the ability to take notes on it like the Note 4 can do. btw.....the wife has a Note 4 also and LOVES hers. At first, she didn't think she'd like it because of it's size. Those concerns quickly went away as soon as she started using it. She loves it now. Apple and Samsung are the two biggest players and the two most popular brands of phones I think. Everything else is just a runner up. Personally, I'd stick to the major brands and the top of the line of those brands. However, my personal favorite is Samsung with the Android operating system and the Note 4 is my favorite model from Samsung. I use the Defender case from Otterbox on my Note 4. http://www.otterbox.com/en-us/galaxy-note-4-cases

Have had my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (android) for close to 3 years and have no reason to change, I really like the S pen feature! Would have gone with a galaxy s2 if it had an S-pen.,, It really helps with the fat finger problem

What do you want to do with the phone?
I'm not into all the goofy apps that attract some folks. I wanted a well built phone as I'm in construction and reliable. A real good camera and free long distance without a plan. "Blackberry" has been my choice for at least ten years....... I have no complaints. The "Z10" model is fast and on the internet an the "hub" feature works flawlessly and very smooth. In the ten years I have had three models and all performed as well as I needed them to.

Could you expound a little on the "anything from Apple, mostly because of all of their proprietary crap"? Exactly what "proprietary crap" are you referring to? Isn't that a little similar to saying you hate Harleys because of all their proprietary crap or to stay away from (Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, etc) because of all their proprietary crap? Every company has proprietary things. Does Samsung not have anything "proprietary?" Since you point out that the iPhone's battery isn't (easily) replaceable, I'm guessing that you haven't noticed that the newest models of Samsung phones have switched to non-removable batteries and removed the sim card slot. Since you "despise" Apple because they're always changing things with new models, how does this affect your loyalty to Samsung? Ya know, your deep-rooted preference for a particular brand of something and your strange hate for Apple shouldn't lead you to providing erroneous, highly prejudiced and biased advice to someone asking for help. Why not just be fair about it and give them information to compare? Here's a little article to bring yourself a bit more up-to-date on your favorite N. Korean company's products. http://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-galaxy-s6-removable-battery-microsd-why-596631/My advice to anyone who's trying to decide on buying anything is to just jump online and do a few searches and read up on some reviews. Simply asking your friends will only get you information on their own personal preferences, regardless of how they might have arrived at their own choices.

I can identify with the "fat finger" problem. Sounds like they got that fixed, now automatic cheaters for the "eyes can't see up close things" problem. Don't need a lot of fancy apps, my phone needs are pretty dull. My wife however, needs the texting to keep our workers in line. Seems young folks don't know how to talk on the phone. Guess I'm too impatient to wait for an answer. I guess data would be nice for weather or fun facts at the bar, Who knows, within a month I might addicted to it.javascript:void(0);

Hadn't tried it before but punched the button for the Blackberry assistant. told it to "send text". It asked me who, I told it, then it asked me what I wanted to send in the text message. I told it, it got it right with no corrections. Then I said "send" and it did.

Guess I struck a nerve with an Apple fan boy. The post from titan shows just how rabid Apple loyalists can be. With the Apple fans, it's Apple or nothing. Instead of trying to attack me Titan, why don't you just tell Mn Noreman why you think Apple is the better phone. I said why I think my Note 4 is the better phone, why can't you simply do the same? Or is attacking me easier for you because you have nothing to offer?

Yes it was. I had the very first Motorola Droid with the slide out keyboard. At the time, it was a big deal. Compared to todays phones, it's tiny and a brick. I still have that phone in box somewhere.

Holy Cow what did I just do. Im now in this sensitive world of whose smart phone is smarter. I have had an LG flip phone forever 3 or 4 versions and LOVE them. I could press one button and talk to someone no matter where they were.....It was great. Well it died and none available....so I got a Motorola Droid thing, cost me 99 bucks and the card (no contract) is $45 a month for unlimited everything, which is funny because I use 200 min and 4 texts a month and no data, well now email is on the phone so I can email pictures to the PC, so I will use a small amount of data now Took me 3 days to learn how to use it, I have to "tap" on more buttons on this thing to get to an actual call being made then the flip, but its not so bad. Call quality is better and I can talk my texts so no typing them anymore. I don't know what the difference would be one kind of smart phone to another, apps, tapping, sliding screens...its all a pain in the butt. Id rather flip it open and hit a button.

I've never had a C-phone of any kind (Luddite.... except I don't go around smashing stuff up like they did). My take on this is: competition is a good thing (and the way things are supposed to be). With one in every pocket, I guess the revolution WILL be televised.

Jeff I miss my old Motorola Razor flip phone that I had for years, call quality was 2nd to none and very seldom dropped a call! Looks like you might have a Moto G there. They are great phones for the money and the call quality is excellent. You will get used to it in time and you can put you favorite ppl on there and just touch on their face or name and call. Btw, you need to check out PP. They have a $12 plan, 250 mins/250 texts and 20 MB I think-might work for ya!

Well Bit-T mine is probably not as good as that MotoG this is only the e model Droid, I looked it up Moto e Droid, I have no idea what that means or what it cant do or should do. I can make a call and send a text, that's all I do. All the games and web surfing and Lord knows what else can be done, that's for these young kids that has no life

Norse - my recommendation is to try out the phones your close knit circle of friends/family uses. See if you like any of them. Try their phones using the most common things you expect to do with your new phone. If you like the way it works, go for it. You can't go wrong with BlackBerry, Samsung, or Apple - it's all a matter of your personal preference. The 3 big guys make great hardware. Motorola, HTC, and LG are not bad either but i don't have much experience with their warranty.

I'm certainly no young kid but it's debatable whether I have a life.

Either way VRCC time is exempt from the comment I made before I tried, couldn't sign in and even if I could it looked painful to get around all the text was small and if I enlarged it I couldn't see much at a time.....Ill just do my VRCC'ing here at the PC

Havoc, Thats what I'm doing,(VRCC), also am looking at what the employees are using. Scary but most of them have cracked screens and are beat to @#$%. Hope they're treating my business better than that. I suppose they don't want to spring for a case. Talked to sisters, bils, sils, sons, daughters. Friend of mine borrowed me a spare motorola, I think we're going to do smarttalk for a month and see whats up. Sounds like high school, whatever car you bought or were given was the best in the world. Took a little time to figure that one out. BUT thats another "oil thread".

I have a new Motorola droid. I do surf a little, and text once in a while, If I have a picture I want to send the wife or kids. I mostly use the phone, and have never had a dropped call. My wife uses hers to play games, but, I have no interest. Call clarity was my number one consideration. And I like the operating system........YMMV
