He is no longer in pain, no longer suffering...

Passed away about 10:00 last evening, in his sleep, in his own bed, with his wife by his side...  With dignity.

87 years old, a WWII Navy vet, 30 years as a Milwaukee Policeman/Detective, 13 years as a Criminal Science Instructor at the Chippawa Valley Technical College (in Eau Claire WI).

Was my Cub Scout Pack Leader, my Boy Scout Troop Leader...  Taught me to fish, camp, how NOT to ride a motorcycle ( Wink )shoot guns, home repair, how to be a man, how to be a father...

Advised me when I needed it, comforted me when I needed it, smacked me when I needed it...  Loved me non stop.

He was a good man, and found his return to his faith in the last few years of his life.

Gonna miss ya Pops  Cry

Black dog sounds like your pop was a good one and he will no longer suffer and you can take comfort in that. I lost my Mother about 18 months ago and not easy but you will get through it. It sounds as he lived a very full life and that is all any of us can ask.
I thank him for his service to this country it is because of men like him we are still free.( although powers at be want that changed)

Condolences to you, sir, and a prayer for your dad.  A man's life is changed forever when he no longer has his dad to advise and confirm the important stuff.  Some 35 years later and I still need his council.

Ironically, my dad was also a sailor in WWII and the name of his ship was the U.S.S. Chippewa, a sea going (fleet) tugboat.

May your memories of him sustain you in the tough times and the good times. angel

Black Dog,
It sounds like your Dad was quite a man! He packed a lot of achievement into his lifetime and it sounds like he was always there for you and instilled good values into you.
While he may be at peace, it doesn't make it any easier to say goodbye.  My Dad was also a proud WWII Vet and his burial was the toughest thing I've ever tried to get through, especially when they played Taps and did the 21 Gun Salute.
May your Dad rest in Peace for a job well done!

Sorry to hear this Steve.

1st time I was at your house I remember his picture hanging on the wall in the hallway just outside the kitchen.

I remember also you telling about his accomplishments and achievement then.   Remarkable gentleman.

I'd also like to thank him for his service.

Prayers & Condolences to you and all of your family.

I am sorry for your loss.  Rest assured, he is in a happier place.  I think he is standing guard as your guardian angle.  He probably shared some great stories with Jesus and had a few laughs.

Keep your chin and spirits up.  Time will take away any hurt and enhance your great memories.

Sorry for your loss. Quote from VFW service

The red of our country's flag was made redder by his heroism; the white more stainlessly pure by the motives which impelled him; and, in the starry field of our nation's glorious banner, the blue has been glorified by the service he has given for American ideals.

I salute your father
