I guess none get the humor cause u don't know about philly unions, so I will delete.

actual recent case at the union controlled convention center.
A business group 30+ wanted their pictures taken by few of their employees (I personally know the person). the employee/s wanted to stand on a ladder to get a good picture shot. union people said not allowed to do that. a stand must be built at a cost of 5K to stand on to take the pictures.
I guess its me. and by the way I belong to one of the federal unions which are not allowed to negotiate salaries.

yep, just standing there
would you rather they just started doing things with no plan or direction?
maybe each one should decide what he wants to do rather than take a minute for a plan to be explained?
I'm with you-they should all just start doing whatever they feel like, but don't stand around waiting for instructions. Makes sense, right?

don't look to me like they are standing there doing nothing......looks to me like they were gathered together for a meeting or instructions.......or maybe a safety meeting before they start.    Bet on your job I could find a point in time it looks like you and your coworkers are standing around in a picture.  On my job we work steady and give a day's work for a day's pay......but while waiting on the freight elevator in this 32 story bldg 10 of us would look like we were wasting time doing nothing....ha.

Was up in Louisville over the weekend and read in the newspaper that the KY DOT had laid off 4,000 laborers.  They found a shovel that could stand up by itself.

People that can take a one snapshot glance at a situation and have all the answers have always amazed me.

I guess you can look at something like that and depending on your mindset, attitude and life expierance and come to several different conclusions. When ultimately compared to the truth you would most likely be incorrect regardless of your answer.

I see a group of emergency responders from multiple agencies  gathering for a meeting on how to proceed with the investigation and or disaster mitigation. At this stage of the incident I find it highly unlikely that they are simply "cleaning up the mess."

Evidence will be collected, thousands of photographs taken, etc. To say that anyone in a union is automatically a lazy bum is just ignorant thinking.  P.S. I have never been in a union.   Wink

Every day, before work begins, a prejob brief is held, discussing hazards, how to midigate them, if there is hot work (welding, grinding),  will there be working overhead, is rigging involved, has it been inspected, are all certifications current, who will be leading the work, if there is an emergency, where is the muster point so all hands can be accounted for.  Need I say more?
