I can only say this because now I'm one of you. I would see all of you guys with driver backrests on their seats an think it must be another old guy driving this one. I thought my bike is too cool to have one of them sticking out, I'll never have one of those. My new backrest from ultimate seats arrived the other day and I'm pretty sure my life will never be the same. I was so comfortable and I still think I'm cool. Turns out I may have been wrong all these years or maybe I'm getting old and don't care. cooldude

Heck, I thought the same thing about windscreens at one time too.  I like my creature comforts.

Back in '71 after a government paid vacation in a far off land, I rode cross country on a chopper. I ended up using a duffle bag for a back rest and have used one ever since. Have I mentioned that I like creature comforts.

Being the old guy that I am, and having had back surgery 20+ years ago, I can't ride without one. My Ultimate seat and Utopia backrest works great for me.

Same here, a backrest doesn't reduce the cool factor one bit. It makes the difference between a long comfortable and a ride.

I'm too old to worry about  me or my bike being cool. I'll never be too old to be comfortable. Utopia for me.

Never even ridden a bike with a backrest myself so I guess I don't know what I am missing so it don't matter.

Showing signs of age and don't care.

I'm also showing signs of age....  but I forget what they are.

Then I look in the mirror............... WHO THE FOLK IS THAT!!!!  Grin

For me comfort is the golden triangle... backrest (and good seat), risers, and floorboards (with heel toe shifter) (on a center/mid-control bike).   That's my feng shui (fung shway) baby.  Cool

Who ever said a back rest wasn't cool, has no idea what the heck they're talking about but, only us cool kids know for sure.   Wink

I have to add to the wonderful things to have is a set of Mick O Pegs to really enjoy the ride and yes boys and girls, they are cool.   I couldn't and wouldn't try to ride nearly as long without them.   cooldude

Joe, those Baker's make that big of difference?
I know I like my backrest. When I was looking to buy a Valk. Some that I test rode had backrests. I really liked that. So I was sure to pick one up. Always liked having a bag behind me on long trips to have support.

Just remember that the back rest becomes a WMD when you hit those bridge expansion joints or frost heaves. I screamed out loud in Toledo after 12 hours of riding and I had that backrest smack me in the back going over a frost heave. It felt like I was stabed in the spine. For the rest of the time, the back rest is great just remember to lean forward if you see those bumps coming at you.

Mine was on the bike when I bought it.  I absolutely love it. I tell people it's to hold me in the seat when I roll the throttle back.

Never had the back rest hit me that hard (sounds like maybe it needs a little tweaking-adjustment), but my low back does not like big bumps.  I get clear off my butt with bent knees and let the knees take the bumps... esp freeway bridges.  Old dirt bike rider stuff.

Speed humps, I just slow down, and when there is clearance, I ride over 6" from the curb where there is no hump.

I need one just to stay on my valk when I really twist the throttle.  Almost came out of my hands when I first test road the new valk last year.
