Well I guess I'll just have to sign up for Inzane to get out of it. Goofy clerk said she could let me off the hook that week and I really don't give  damn. Ain't no way I'd appear if I'm out of state. Soo it looks like I'll be seeing you loonatics again.

I've been called in twice.  First time I knew the family of the people involved so got out of it.  2nd time (HINT here) if you show up just a few minutes prior to scheduled time being there, they already take the first 10-12 or whatever on the jury from the first people showing up and set them up there in the jury box with the alternatives (me showing up just in time)  in the crowd just as alternatives.

Works out well!

Got out of it one time many years ago on a case of wrong doing on the part of Montgomery Wards. During questioning I said that Montgomery Wards was guilty because I thought that they were crooks, kicked me out right now.

I actually don't mind serving on a jury. I figure if I'm ever accused of a crime, I don't want my fate to be decided by 12 people not smart enough to get out of jury duty, so I'm happy to serve and do my best.

I've sat on 2 juries. A civil case involving a little girl who lost her finger tips in the automatically closing bathroom door of a fast food restaurant (We found that while it sucked, the business did nothing wrong) and a capital murder case (Drug dealer killed another drug dealer to rob him.) The 19 year old thug that did it will be eligible for parole when he's almost 70...

Likien responses. The time I sat on one my wages were paid in full. Now where I work I'm considered part time and if I cannot do the run then I'm screwed out of $80 clear for each day and in a minute way it does affect how much I will get per month of social security as I'm just about 64 but still don't have enough time in to draw social security. If I was fully retired it'd be OK.

I've been called a few times but apparently they don't like my type actually on the jury.  I've been sent away.

I too believe jury duty is a civic duty.

Regular trials would be one thing, but who in their right mind would like to be caught up in one of those months' long OJ type cases?

As law clerk/bailiff to a MI trial judge I was instructed to hand the jury a jar of brain matter scraped out of the murder victim's head, and the bullet slug.  They were interested.  In a later trial, I was instructed to hand them the rape victim's blood stained under britches.... the jury recoiled and would not take them. (I did not blame them, I used a pencil to transport them)   I had to take them to lunch and keep the lawyers away from them, and guard the doors of the deliberation room (sometimes there was a lot of fighting and arguing going on in there).  It was a very educational experience.

Jury duty certainly is an educational experience, from before the interviews right on thru to the end.

In my 50 some odd years of being an adult, I have only been called once to serve.  My DW on the other hand gets call all the time.  We have lived here for 5 years, she has gotten 3 calls so far.

Not complaining.  The one time, they didn't want me.  I knew the guy was guilty.

Yeah, sometimes it puts off a defense attorney when one answers, "Hey, if he wasn't guilty he wouldn't have been arrested."   Smiley

Of course, why would an officer go to the trouble of an arrest if the perp wasn't guilty.   Smiley

I usually see it used as Dear Wife, but can't speak for 0leman's intended usage...

(I personally prefer the too accurate SWMBO myself...)

A high percentage of criminal jury trial defendants are guilty, but remember this:  A a truly innocent man will often roll the dice on a jury and not take the almost always offered plea bargain deal where he will have to tell the judge he is guilty during the plea on the record, even if he isn't (or the plea will be rejected and the case referred for trial).  The pressure for an innocent man to take such a plea is almost overwhelming, since he nearly always risks a much harsher sentence if he loses at jury trial.

If you ever sit on a criminal jury, try to keep an open mind..... it could be you up there.

Here in Orange County, Fla., once you turn 70 you're exempt if you so desire. I desired! Might even be statewide, don't know for sure.

We must have aged out of jury duty, Sue was called twice but was never picked for a jury, I was called once and also not picked.  I think we failed the written exam given to us here in Minnesota...
