HELP 911!!!! ON SIDE OF ROAD

Stuck in traffic and heat Light came. The fan is Not running. Did not see but one fuse box none is marked so I pulled all. They all look good. Is there another fuse box or what, where is color of fan wire?

My Clymer manual make it look like a black with blue wire feeding the fan. There's a 10A fuse in the fuse box. THE fuse box. You can try grounding the single black wire that goes the thermostatic switch on the bottom left of the radiator. The fan should come on if the ignition switch is on. Good Luck!!

THANKS BONS. I can't see it and. Don't have Allen wrench to take pods off

Sounds like it may be the fan relay. You could bypass that and leave the fan on until you can fix it. or let it cool then ride. I found that mine only overheated when I wasn't going over about 35 mph.

There is no "fan relay", in the fan circuit. Valker may be thinking about the engine coolant temp. indicator unit (under left side cover) for the indicator light, but it is not in the fan circuit. To turn on the fan, try what BonS said,, if the fan is not coming on, there is a good chance that the wire has come off the fan motor switch he is talking about on the lower left inside of the radiator, grounding the black wire will turn on the fan if the motor is good, and there is 12 volts being supplied.. There is not much in the circuit. The fuse is 10 Amp. labeled  fan motor.

You need one in tool pouch.

If you have a '99 I/S, you have the old style hot light circuit. It's randomly faulty and comes on when the bike isn't overheating. That's why the fan isn't running. The two functions are not tied together.

I know that's true Valker,,, I've been there,,,  what you do have is plenty of heat and wide open space. Traveling two laners out your way, you can go twenty miles without seeing a sign of civilization except for maybe an entrance to a ranch,,  I guess it is all ranch land??

The really nice land is ranches.Some of these run into the hundreds of square miles.

Thanks guys I'm very grateful for your help!! I made it after it "cooled" and got outa traffic. I think the light sensor or something is faulty. Yes Sandy I have a 1999 Interstate and glad this is a known problem. So what exactly do I need to order?

I really would like to put in a gauge if I can. Has anyone ever done this? I've never liked idiot lights!

Years ago at Inzane someone was selling a kit that you put in your radiator hose . I use the thermometer oil dip stick . Hope you get it figured out.

Hey BIG--T,, I know that a temp gauge can be put on a Valkyrie,, I have seen it. I may be that each one is a custom installation.

If it was my bike, I would first want to know that my fan circuit was working correctly,, or not.. At least if you have confidence in that, and you know that you are topped off with coolant, it takes a bit of the worry out of the over temp indicator if it comes on.  Then the indicator can be looked into or a gauge installed when you get the time.

I don't like idiot lights either, so I bought radiator cap with a temp gauge on it a couple of months ago.  It works great even though it's gotten mixed reviews on this forum. I Think I paid about 15-20 bucks for it.  If it ever malfunctions or something, I still have my OEM radiator cap that I'll just put pack on there.

Evil bay... 2473r 16 psi mr gasket radiator cap.  It was actually less than 15 bucks

Do you know of a cross reference chart?

Tom I'm going ahead and order. Then I'll try finding a oil temperature dip stick but so far all I've found is $7 Chinese junk I don't trust. Thanks Tom you're a life saver!
