So, I'm replacing the front tire with a new one. A bit of work getting the old tire off, and a fair bit of struggle getting the new one on, then getting the beads to seal against the rim enough to add pressure and seat thee beads. Lots of sweat, but it got done. Then I checked all sealing surfaces with soapy water, and everything looked good until I got the axle in and started looking at the balance. The @&%£! tire was on backwards! Sigh... I guess I'll finish it tomorrow evening instead.  Sad

I feel your pain, Gryph....lots of lube and maybe throw the whole thing out in the sun for a while and let it warm up. Use clamps to keep the opposite side in the middle of the rim--but you probably knew all that stuff anyway.

I think the worst is doing a darkside tire manually! Good luck!

Yeah, I hope the sun's still shining tomorrow after work to warm up the tire. I have one of those parabolic heaters as a backup, though. I had a piece of apple pie, went back to the garage and dismounted the tire, then shut off the lights and came back in.

I hate changing tires. I take my wheel off and go pay someone 25 bucks to change and balance it. It's much easier on my blood pressure that way.

While I admittedly do not possess either the equipment or the skills to change tires on the Valk I can't help but feel the price I pay to have it done at the local Honda shop is worth every penny.

On my last front  tire change , I flew thru the job. Off ,broke down ,changed , new balance beads , back on the rim ,inflated to proper pressure and checked for leaks. Rolled it back to the bike and thought , "man , this tire looks bad , what did they sell me". I then looked over to see the new tire waving at me by the parts cabinet.  M O R A L , slow down and look and do not work when over tired.  (that is the exhausted kind of tired)

I think Da Prez just one-upped you there, Gryphon Rider! Grin

Now, I would mount new tires AND I would get them oriented the right way - but I would then find I had the front on the rear and vice versa... uglystupid2

I close with reference back to my earlier post. Embarrassed

Yup, If I was in the state da prez was in, I probably would have had the had the wheel installed and the bike off the lift and not noticed until the next morning.

If you could get the back tire on the front rim, I would want shake your hand, but would be afraid to because you would be strong enough to crush all my hand bones into tiny pieces.

The outfit that has mounted my tires for several years now informed me the last trip in that they are going to start charging more for Darkside mounts. They have a real nice machine and I run double Darkside, only dragging in the tires and rims every time. Maybe I shouldn't have changed both tires the same day so they could have forgotten some of the language that was used to coerce the tires onto the rims?
I have no desire to start changing my own tires unless it is an absolute emergency but I do feel your pain.

Putting a tire on backwards on purpose is one thing, accidental is another. LOL have almost always changed my own tires. The few times I had someone else do them, I had to re balance them anyway. I did have a friend do my last darkside for me, as I bought the tire from him  cooldude
