Nice day, this AM. A little grouchy so an adjustment is in order. Out to the garage. Whoops, No two wheels.......but there are (is ) four wheels, the Miata. Ok. fold down the sun visors, roll down the windows, open the top clamps, flip the top into the back, and 'boot' it. I jackknife myself into the seat/ turn on the ignition, and fire up this four cylinder dohc 1.8. Backing out of the garage, gee, not even using my feet, and I'm ready to blast off. I'll not bore you with getting there, just saying when I found the room, I snicked through all six gears, revving to 7 grand in places where i could get away with it, and had a Blast. I'm "In the Wind" , not banking in the turns, not having an overly amount of neck stretching acceleration but going never the less. Tooling along in sixth gear at a measly 2500 rpm at a relaxing 50mph or so, I downshift and make my way through one of the two curves in NE Indiana A very relaxing drive with the wind blowing past me and the blue sky above me with no helmet to get in the way I find that my attitude is fast adjusting itself in a proper direction. After a short drive I return to my driveway and my neighbor snaps a pic of the VERY COOL 87 year old with the shades and the white cap that says Solo1. To finish it off, I'm a sippin' on a Dark and Stormy as I write this. Ahhh, not motorcycling but it's still good!

Just a wild guess Brian. When I hunted in Ucross Wyoming it was 1385. I doubt that my knees could tell the difference,

You old fart, you are having way tooooooo much fun.
If I could of got in and out of the Miata I was looking at, I'd of bought it.
Nascar Ford engine and running gear.
Only thing Miata about it was the actual body. Hood was custom made, made longer, suspension was custom so as to hold the Lincoln rear end with disk brakes front and rear.
One of Hendrickson's shop employees built it. Runs like a screamin idiot.

Just a wild guess Brian. When I hunted in Ucross Wyoming it was 1385. I doubt that my knees could tell the difference, Two days. Five hundred fifty miles per day. Three days. four hundred miles per day. Lots of time for stops; get outs; and walk arounds. You a retired. Too long someone else kept you in chains. Don't do it to yourself.

Carl, no one kept me in chains except me. I cannot speak for others but for myself the years have taken their toll and I'm reminded of what Dirty Harry said "A man's gots to know his limitations" To me, this is absolutely no place to talk about my limitations. I WILL keep upbeat but I do know that a drive out to Spearfish will not work for me. There is plenty of Life left in this ole bod and I will not squander it on what I can't do.......... and that is for me to know. I look back when I was 75, riding the Valk back from Pigeon Forge with no problem. I also am fond of saying that the warranty runs out at 75 years. Too true. I get tired much too quickly. To paraphrase, I do what i can, I know what I can't, and I hope to continue to have the knowledge to know the difference. I do miss talking to my friends in the VRCC. maybe I can get them to come to me. Wayne, solo1

When I was 20/21 years old, I had a Triumph GT 6+. Thinking to back then, I simply got in it and got out of it. Don't know how I did....just did....with ease. No thinking about it required. Today, I look at little cars like that and think of the struggles of getting in it.....and then, I think more of the struggles of getting back out of it. I'm a full size person....I need a full size vehicle.

I don't think it is just age getting in and out of most of today's 4 cylinder cars. Most sit so low and such a raked front seat roofline that you have to duck your head just to get in/out and I'm only 5'10" tall. Now on the Miata, head ducking is not an issue since NO top is needed which is nice, just the lowness of getting in and out. Your sure do look good in that Miata and if it makes you smile, that is all that matters, you being happy. After 87 years, you surely deserve it.

Okay, I give...... What the heck is a Dark and Stormy?
I remember when my Mom called me back in 1994 and told me to come get the 1957 Thunderbird from San Diego. Her words were................ " Honey? The seats are gettin' lower and the curbs are gettin' higher"

Pappy, a Dark and Stormy is a jigger of dark Jamaican rum, 2 or 3 jiggers of ginger beer, a dash of lime juice, all served in a traditional copper mug with lots of ice. Very good. On the original note, getting in and out of the Miata is best done by sitting on the seat, ducking your head, (if the top is up) and then pulling in your legs. Once in, it's as comfortable as most any car. It forces me to do exercises to keep limber enough to di it. It's harder in the morning (arthritis) but easier as the day goes on.

Its good to not press the limits of your limitations. That way you can enjoy the limitations virtually with out limits. BTW, You look mhaaavelous in your little hot rod.
