This will tug at your heart strings, believe me. Watch the first reaction of patients that can hear for the first time.

There is so danged much a lot of folks take for granted. I can NOT relate to living in a silent world. Those folks on the other hand were taken out of their silent world and can now hear things we normally take for granted. Modern technology for the betterment of mankind.  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Amazing!  I can't imagine what that would be like!  Gnats.

John, and others, along the same line, try to watch "Alive Inside" a documentary by Micheal Rossato-Bennett.  It shows how music from an Ipod will bring back to life those suffering from Dementia and Alzheimers disease.   That's amazing too!

I got a cochlear implant almost 2 years ago (thus CI_Borg). It's a amazing development.  Profoundly hard of hearing at all frequencies  and totally deaf above 2500 Hz I can now hear up to 8000 Hz at only 10 db below what is considered normal hearing.  I can hear sounds my wife cannot hear.  The video is a little misleading in that it shows people immediately understanding speech at activation.  While this happens to a fortunate few who are "late deafened" and still retain speech memory, for the majority, learning to understand speech requires weeks or months of  rehabilitation and practice.
