Close to home....Former Speaker of the House Hastert indicted

Former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert was indicted yesterday. This hits close to home as I graduated from Oswego High School, as did Dennis(much earlier) and then I lived about 2 miles from him in the same town, Yorkville, while he was Speaker.

He was a long time coach and teacher at Yorkville and they won a state wrestling championship under him. He then moved 5 miles west to a nice piece of property north of Plano, Ill. that I go by all the time on my Valkyrie(now it's Valk related).

It looks like he might be moving to another big house but not a desirable one. He might join a long list of corrupt Illinois politicians-most notably former Governors.

I don't want to read too much into it, but I pray the supposed hush money paid out didn't pertain to his teaching days.
Jack, you are right. I never met the man but he was sure "thought" to be a pretty straight up and respected guy. Yorkville was small town USA back when he was teaching. We've ballooned up to 17,000.

Maybe, it could be a multitude of things. There were plenty of teenage girls for teachers to take advantage of also. Or it could be a BS setup. I guess we will see soon enough .

Lots of people and a lot of politicians have been in bed with folks they are not married to while married to their spouse. Might have been better off owning up to his misdeeds instead of what's happening now. AND I'm guessing here but he'll probably go to jail for the illegal withdrawls and not the sexual indiscretion. HOW one asks does some one coming into politics with a net worth slightly north of a 1/4 mil increase his net worth to into the multiple millions? THAT right there is the question I'm curious to have an answer for. And yet the politicos WONDER why we really deep down inside can't stand them.  RIDE SAFE.

One article had his total net worth at less than $200 K prior to becoming a politician, and it was over $17 million when he left office.

Yeah that's what it's looking like. Someone's previous post got me wondering : Would it be worse if it was a sexual misconduct with an underage girl, boy, or a consenting teacher ? I have my opinion on it but I have NO valid rationale for them.

It had to have been something very significant if the hush money was 3.5 mil over the years. I'm not saying it makes up for it in ANY way, but it will be interesting to see what kind of lifestyle the payee has led with that kind of money.  
I've already heard the news trucks are all descending on Yorkville/Plano.

Lot's of twists developing. Hastert can't go after the other party for extortion because he told the FBI that he was keeping all of the withdrawn money for personal use. Also, Wolf Blitzer reported if he plea bargains the banking violations, he might not even serve time or even be brought up on the sexual abuse stuff. But if it goes to trial, all bets are off and it could all come out. Stay tuned!
