You have it all wrong.  Her mom says the car driver was the victim she only ran him over and killed him because he kicked her door, so she thought it was the right thing to do at the time.   crazy2

I hope she gets convicted.

That is a damn shame.  No matter the cause, the rider cannot win. In this case he died.

When I had some cager pull a stupid on me, I held back and reminded myself that it's sorta like bringing a knife to a gunfight.  800 pounds of man and cycle, without protection, is no match for a 3500 pound missile.

+1.
Kinda a no win situation taking on cages and trucks, especially if the driver is angry and/or crazy!  One reason I question the handlebar whips bikers carry around.  It's hard for some bikers to set the machismo aside, but advisable when dealing with a ton or more of steel.  Get a license plate if possible, if not breathe deeply and cherish life.

I've bitten my tongue more than once over the years-even when I was younger. Had a WWII vet who was a rider told me a long time ago iffin yer on yer motor and a cage does you wrong when yer still rollin you WILL lose. I've kept that observation with me for a lot o years. Chief-may you forever R I P and I KNOW you didn't want Taps because of this persons idiocy. We as riders need to keep up with this story. IF all this plays out to be factual life with out parole would be a cursed good start. Far too many KILLERS of riders getting off with a wrist slap.  Cry RIDE SAFE.

good idea to not take action while moving.  I didn't do that though last week when riding cycle I got near T-boned when a small SUV pulled out in a cross road without looking right with me coming at him.  I beeped the horn, swerved over to the far right to avoid a sure 100% t-bone, and turned around while doing 55 mph and flipped the guy off.  If he would've come after me, I probably would have pulled over and confronted him, but he surely could still do a hit and run if crazy enough.  Bunch of crazies out there ya never know what they will do.  uglystupid2

My people skills are just fine, thank you.
But my tolerance of Idiots needs some real work!
(Quote stolen, of course)

I have managed to keep that tolerance under control in no-win situations up to this point.
Sometimes its hard.

I guess Im in the minority and can say Ive never backed down. When someone has pulled something on me Ive never backed down and they knew about it at the time, the next light or parking lot, etc.

Sometimes a little fear will make them think next time.  coolsmiley

Had a van in YS last yr on my ass as I was going slow cause if the rain/sleet. Chucking a few coins didn't work and they finally passed me. They pulled off up ahead and I prepared to stop. Rolled up next to the drivers door and they knew I was mad. Stopped to put the ks down in the middle of the road but Jamie said to go as there was a line of cars behind me.
Ripped a pts family member a new one fri as he was tailgating my ambulance. I almost broad sided a car as a result. Had security go with me to confront him as I was livid.  tickedoff

I'm constantly tailgated when I'm driving the Miata in town.  I don't drive under the speed limit but it makes no difference.  Some days I wish that I had my Army deuce and a half back. They would be eating the back end of some real iron.

The Miata gets no more respect than a motorcycle. There's a majority of idiots out there.

Well back in the winter I related how I had a tomato thrown at me one night coming home from work, from what I supposed was a carload of kids.  At the time I didn't even know what hit me, so I just pulled over to assess the damage. Of course I immediately felt the urge to swing the girl back around and chase down that car, but it was 10 o'clock at night, had no idea what I'd do if I caught up to them, and didn't see the point of escalating the situation.  Maybe I'm in the minority, but I let them go, just chalked it up to some stupid kids who don't have any respect for people – yes they need to be taught a lesson – I didn't feel like being the one to do it.  Probably if it had been something harder than a tomato that hit me I would've pursued them and done who knows what once I caught them.  Marines or former Marines have a habit of not backing down, so that's why I must be a minority. crazy2

As we've said, the bike is going to lose.

The last time I acted on a stupid move was as riding in our downtown street while attempting to pull into a parking spot, some dim-wit in a black BMW decided to go past me between me and the other parked cars. Yep, I had the signal on, even the right one. My first instinct, which I acted on, was to kick his door in with my right foot and make mention quite loudly of what I thought of his heritage.

Generally when I don't like what some driver is doing I just get away if I can. If they follow too closely ,which they usually do when in one of old cars, I just keep slowing down until they get the hint.

Since we are telling stories,, I used to ride my wife's little Honda Rebel 250 once in a while because she wouldn't and it was fun and uncomfortable. Anyway, I usually head to some country north of me a few miles to get away from idiots in cars. I was riding about 50 mph when I noticed a big cowboy pickup catching up to me. I moved to the road edge giving him plenty of room to get that jacked up truck around me. When he caught up he just started tailgating me. There was a turn up ahead with an 11 mile straight road. When I turned, the truck turned too. He followed for a few miles and I acted like he wasn't there. He dropped back about 20 yards and then I heard popping noises. I was looking in the mirrors and I could see arms out both front windows and they had pistols. I could not tell if they were shooting in the sky or at me. I did not know what to do, we were the only ones on the road and I couldn't out run them. I thought for a second and decided they must be trying to scare me so I slowed the bike very fast making sure they wouldn't run over me and then stopped in the road. The truck stopped and backed up quickly and turned around and left. I took off the other direction and went home. It was a gamble on my part, as I didn't know what they would do, I do arm myself now.  Firefighter
